This historic structure has a 93' tower, Oregon's tallest... | It is located on a narrow point of land jutting due west into the Pacific Ocean north of Newport... | Took off early in the morning to visit the Yaquina Head Lighthouse...

for me...lighthouse hunting would become my 2nd passion next to covered bridges...

This shot is looking down from the top from inside the lighthouse...

next stop Nye Beach... | A place to escape is the secret of Nye Beach. This colorful seaside community provides the same charm & beauty in a warm friendly village as in the days gone by...

We had a ball just walking around the shops and sightseeing...even George got into the shopping! This was such a lovely beach town...we had lunch at The Chowder Bowl, which is the favorite of the locals too...the wait was over an hour in line...

This was one of my favorite stops today, Cape Foulweather.. discovered & named in 1778 by the famous Captain James Cook. It was at this point that he first sighted the mainland of North America on the Pacific Coast, & one of the sudden storms

which greeted his arrival almost put an end to his historical expedition. The fierceness of the storm is reflected by the name he gave this rugged landmark - Cape Foulweather... The Lookout is perched atop this promontory rising 500 feet about sea level, stunning & beautiful.... | Cape Foulweather...

George takes a nap... | ...while I go down to the beach & have fun writing in the sand...

We have changed over the years, but the sparkle in your eyes is as bright as ever, and my love for you is even stronger.

 XO

Today we say goodbye to Newport.. The day is so clear and beautiful that we decided to head back to Yaquina Head Lighthouse to get some better pictures since it was overcast and foggy the first day we went... Quite a difference! We will be heading toward California down Hwy 101 & 1...

This is Yaquina Bay historic bridge and was really beautiful...George is so good about stopping as much as I want to take pictures...what a sweet Our plan is to make it to Bandon where we will bed down for the night... Loved the Tsunami warnings we saw along the way...

This is by Cape Perpetua along the highway.

We stopped at Heceta Head Lighthouse...we parked & had to hike about 5 miles up a hill to get to the lighthouse...

To the right is the view hiking up to the lighthouse...the big picture is the view from a viewpoint after we left & were on the road again...

Coming into Bandon......we only traveled 135 miles today... it is 3pm..

We are in Bandon by the Sea...we checked into the Best Western, which was down by the beach...

The beautiful Coquille River Lighthouse just on the outskirts of Bandon...it was the last one built on the Oregon coast, completed in 1896. The short 40' tower served to guide ships across the treacherous bar at the entrance to the river...

Can you see George among the driftwood??

At the time the Coquille River Light was built, the river port of Bandon was a center for shipping the lumber of Oregon's rich forests. It served for just over 4 decades, replaced by an automated beacon on the jetty in 1939.. | The lighthouse's unusual High Victorian Italiante architecture can be admired from the waterfront streets of Bandon... George & I explored around the jetty and on the beach taking pictures... fun...fun..fun
