FC: Our Alaskan Cruise | Honeymoon/One Year Anniversary
We waited to do our Honeymoon trip for a year and make it our one year Anniversary Trip. We took ourselves to Alaska on a cruise. We had a relaxing time. This book will show the trip. We didn't take nearly the pictures I thought we did. We took alot of pictures in Glacier Bay that was the highlight of the whole cruise anyways. With a few pictures of the little towns we went to and spent sometime in. We had a very relaxing and amazing time!!!
The Embarkment day was a rough one for us. Guy and I must of looked like crazies getting on a week long cruise ship crying. We had been dropped off in Seattle by my Mother and my Brother and Conor fell asleep so we didn't want to wake him to say goodbye to him so we left with him sleeping. It was hard on the both of us.
But once the Boat left the dock and the Welcome party began and the Food was flowing. We began to feel alot better. Guy was even up Dancing with the best of them.
Our first night on the Cruise was spent finding where things where and of course trying the wide variety of food we made sure we made it to the show that night to get a taste of what entertainment we were going to have on the cruise. Before the Show we had to go out and enjoy the beautiful sunset as we where coming through the San Juan Islands
Our First day on the ship was a day at sea!!!! We where surrounded by water as far as the eye could see. Every once in awhile we came with in eye sight of an Island off the coast of Canada but for the most part it was water, water and more water. | I must admit that once I got on Ship I turned into a Bear in Hibernation. The most amazing activity that I could think of while on the ship was Sleeping. WIth having an active little one at home A full nights sleep an long naps during that day sounded amazing!!!
Our Second day on the Ship was spent getting up slowly. We where not scheduled to get in to Juneau. AK till 4 so we got up Walked around the main deck. Spent some time in the spa, of Course I napped and Guy watched some Football.
In Juneau, AK we walked around downtown Made sure we stopped by all the big tourist traps, you know the red dog saloon. We even got to have free internet if we bought a beer so Guy got on the net for a bit. I made the wonderful call home to Conor. Then we caught a shuttle out to the Mendenhall Glacier.
Mendenhall Glacier was Amazing. The Icebergs in the water at the foot of the Glacier in the pictures look like Ice cubes but they where the size of cars. On the last page there was one that was shaped like a shark. SO Glad we decided to make the trip out to the Glacier
Day three was spent in Skagway, AK. We booked an Excursion that day that took on a 45 min ferry ride across the passage to the island of Haines, AK. Then a 10 Min bus ride up to the bottom of the steep mountain that we where going to climb in our side by side rhino. The Ride was awesome!!! It was fun to do the 19 switch backs to the cabin where they served us hot coco and apple cider along with Warm Cookies fresh out of the oven. The Views and sights going up the mountain were amazing. We stopped at a lake that was only 2 feet deep but the water was crystal clear. then we finished off the ride up at the top of the mountain where on a clear day you could see down and see the ocean and the cabin where we would go back to for a yummy lunch of bbq chicken and Halibut. The Mushrooms on the trails where awesome. They where everywhere again the waterfalls were amazing. There where these leaves that where about 2 feet in width they where called devils clubs because they had thorns all the way down the stems of the leaf so you couldn't touch them.
Day five was the HIGHLIGHT of the cruise. We where at sea all day but we where in Glacier bay. You almost become numb to the beauty that surrounds you, because it is everywhere. As we entered Glacier back we picked up two Rangers that know all there is to know about glacier bay. They helped us spot wild life and told us alot about the Glaciers.
The Margerie Glacier is a mile wide. Which doesn't seem that that wide when you are looking at it on the ship. It is 200 feet about of water and another 100 feet under the water. Margerie moves at a rate of 7 feet a day up the mountain. I did not know they moved that fast. Glaciers absorb light but for some reason they can not absorb the color blue.
The Black in the Glaciers are pieces of mountain that the glacier has sheered off in it journey. The glacier looks very sharp and jagged. The peaks and crevasses of the glacier were amazing.
The Lumpugh Glacier is the bluest of all the glaciers. It has many caves because it has reached land and glaciers have many rivers that run through them that make these caves.
This is the John Hopkins Glacier. It is the only Glacier that is actually putting on Ice. It puts on Ice at the rate of 15 feet a day. This Glacier is so unpredictable in is calving that you are not allowed to get with in 2 miles of it for safety reason.
Waterfalls were everywhere once again. Being there in the fall we got to see the changing of the colors. Most of the trees in Glacier bay are not ever greens they are mostly maples. the few evergreens you see where actually planted by explorers that came to the area.
Day five was spent in Ketchikan, AK. We walked around the very small town. Which is built into the mountain side. Then we went to the LumberJack Show.
It was more of a put on show then a lumberjack competition but it was still fun to watch them compete cutting wood.
Day six was spent at sea and in the evening we came into Victoria, BC. It was a very beautiful city. We caught a cab to downtown and walked around we seen a Masquerade Ball and had an ice cream cone then went back to the Ship was pretty uneventful.
