Chicken Sandwich loved the wide open spaces of the North Dakota Badlands... taking a little time to enjoy the fresh air, endless blue skies... Something started to stir in his soul. | Life was going to start to change for C.S. He felt the world was his for the taking... Medora would be his first stop and he would use this time to relax, get in touch with his creative side, connect with new friends and experience new adventures...
"I never wanted to start smoking, but there was something wild about bummin' a cig," said Chicken Sandwich.
Visiting the Eagle Ridge Ranch allowed C.S. to explore the outdoors, chop wood, grill for his new friends and try to get the gnome to come out and play.
"I found the Lord that weekend in Medora. I knew where I needed to go and who I want to be," said Chicken Sandwich.
"I really like fall, It reminds me that Thanksgiving is not far away...the pressure is off me for awhile," chuckled Chicken Sandwich.
After some chores of stacking his newly chopped wood, C.S. took a rest to take in all of his hard work, stacked around him. Life was good...
"I've always loved to scrapbook... keeps me connected with friends and my family always loves to see themselves in the finished product." | Chicken Sandwich ponders his next page layout...
During the scrapbooking retreat in Medora, there was a fancy lady. Chicken Sandwich tried so hard to win her love...but she was of another class and it wasn't to be. Another life lesson experienced...another love lost.
My friend, my mentor, Michelle... We shared so much together that weekend...it was a bonding experience like no other.
Leaving Eagle Ridge Lodge was such sweet sorrow... "I realized that life is a journey. I need to explore the world. Nothing is going to hold me back," professed Chicken Sandwich as he made his way down the long and winding road.
"I have such fond memories of the weekend I spent scrapbooking with Chicken Sandwich in Medora. He was busy doing so many things, it's hard to choose my favorite memory. But probably the most memorable moment was when he bummed a cigarette from me while enjoying the amazing view from the lodge." - friend, Andee Woodmansee
The next adventure was to Seattle, Washington. Being introduced to the Pike's Place Market and all of the beauty and life was overwhelming for Chicken Sandwich. He took it all in, savoring each moment... | "I could smell these flowers all day," said Chicken Sandwich.
 Pike Place Market...
Meeting new people such as this clown was a great experience. "I loved the clown. He loved me for who I was. He didn't mind that I was crusty and shiny and stinky," reminisced Chicken Sandwich.
"My fish throwing friends let me in on the fun and excitement," said Chicken Sandwich, "I felt included, a part of the scene. No one had ever made me feel so alive. I had no fear...I WAS CHICKEN SANDWICH!"
"My crab friends were so lonely and crying out for a hug. I couldn't say no...I loved those crabs," said Chicken Sandwich.
The Market Pig didn't throw Chicken Sandwich to the ground. He was welcomed and Pig generously allowed for a photo opportunity. "I love that Pig," smiled Chicken Sandwich.
Chicken Sandwich was in awe of the graffiti in Post Alley...he had to get a closer look...
The Gum Wall looked so good to Chicken Sandwich...he wanted to smell it, lick it...
Gretchen Bell was so kind to me during my stay in Seattle. We chatted while watching the sunset over Vashon Island.
"Time was slipping away, just as the sun was setting, I could feel my time was coming to an end. I needed some alone time to reflect."
Chicken Sandwich's time for reflection was cut short by Crash and Lucky coming to finally say Hello... | and good-bye.
One of the highlights for Chicken Sandwich was getting a view of the Emerald City from the top. Looking out over Seattle was breathtaking and a humbling experience for the North Dakota native.
Chicken Sandwich took more time to reflect... | "I soon realized that being with my friends, Gretchen and Julie were exactly what I needed. No words were needed...just their love to keep me warm," said Chicken Sandwich, with his newly crocheted hat from Gretchen making him feel complete.
"That green grass looked so inviting...I had to take time to roast in the sun," laughed Chicken Sandwich, "Pretty soon I went for it and took it all off!"
"Life for me has been an adventure. Remember to love the ones you're with...don't be afraid to try new things." - Chicken Sandwich, 2010
A word from the author... | The night I first met Chicken Sandwich he was shunned. My husband didn't want him...no one wanted him. All they cared about was the pepperoni pizza. My family didn't think Chicken Sandwich was what they needed. Looking back I guess I felt guilty because I just walked away and left him to get hard and lonely. The next morning when my husband threw him at my windshield and he bounced, I knew this abuse had to stop. I needed to make it right. I needed to make it right with Chicken Sandwich and show him a world without hate...without discrimination. Chicken Sandwich went on to do that...he went on to meet people that accepted him despite his crusty exterior and smelly interior. Chicken Sandwich wanted to travel more extensively. Our plans included trips to Chicago and Mexico. Sadly, Chicken Sandwich never made it on those next trips. I had him hidden and wrapped in my Suburban and one afternoon, my son, Tommy got in the car and exclaimed,"PEWWW, MOM..Did you fart or something?" I knew it was over. I removed his sweet, little knitted hat, that Gretchen Bell so lovingly made, and placed him in the garbage. Now all that is left is our memories and the life lessons learned. - Michelle Farnsworth
