Our Trip to Costa Rica April 2008 Nick Taylor Kevin Harris Todd Hayos David Cantey
RJ, Our guide from Moto Tours Costa Rica prepares to take us to our first destination, Samara on the Nicoya Peninsula
Leaving Samara behind and heading to the beautiful surf town of Santa Teresa
Laid back Santa Teresa. Beautiful girls. Beautiful beaches. Streets are paved in Molasses
A long day ahead of riding will require breakfast at Nicks favorite breakfast place in Costa Rica or anywhere
This day would find us on a long windy really well paved road to the ferry, then Jaco
The Road to Jaco took us across the bridge at Rio Tarcoles and afforded us a look at the famous Crocks there. The specimens you see here are anywhere from 10-16 feet.
Much of the roads and trails of Costa Rica are covered in the red clay you see in this picture. Years later I still have stains on my boots from it.
Leaving Jaco, we head south through jungle and banana plantations to the amazing Manuel Antonio
Once in Manuel Antonio, RJ takes us to lunch below. It is called El Avion. The Fairchild C-123 you see in this pic was the very plane that sparked the Iran-Contras affair. It was too large to drive from the airport where the CIA left it, so they brought it by ship and hefted it all the way up from the ocean you see on the opposite page. They turned two huge decks into the restaurant and the inside of the plane into a bar.
The final day of riding took us from Manuel Antonio back to Atenas. This was the best riding of the trip, as well as the best stories. Nick has one about the pic on the opposite page.
Memories that will never be forgotten and friendships were forged. Another trip to Costa Rica was being conceived on the flight home.
