S: 2011 East Coast Road Trip
FC: East Coast Road Trip
June 26, 2011 - July 4, 2011 Rosemount to Indianapolis to Gettysburg to Washington DC to Virginia Beach to Rosemount 2,765 Miles
Plenty of time in the car. Dominic did really well with it. He had his DVD player and Nintendo DS to keep him busy. He also kept track of our progress with a highlighter in his atlas.
First stop was Indianapolis. Dominic was a Colts fan for years, so we had to grab a couple pics in front of the stadium. We camped outside of town and hit the road in the morning right before the thunderstorms hit.
Second day was another 12 hours from Indianapolis to Gettysburg. We didn't run into as many "mountains" as we thought we would, but we found at least one steep hill in Pennsylvania. There was actually a car that lost control at the bottom, in the woods, and took out a power pole. We decided it was safer not to whip out the camera to capture that moment. :-) We camped our second night outside of Gettysburg.
Our first major destination was the Gettysburg National Battlefield Memorial in Gettysburg PA. | Dinner over the campfire | Catching Fireflies | Hanging in the pool
We learned about the Minnesotans who played an important role in the battle.
 Washington DC
We camped at Greenbelt Park, a national park service park for three nights. Nice and quite. It stormed the first night, so we stayed in and played Farkle. It was a quick 30 minute train ride into the national mall.
 Washington Monument
 WWII and Lincoln Memorials
 Air and Space Museum
After 3 days in DC, we headed down to Virginia Beach. We camped right outside of the naval air station. The F18s we're constantly flying right over our site, barely above the trees. Way cool, but WAY loud!
