Big city or small town, vacations are for exploring the unlimited possibilities of where you go. Just when you think you've seen it all, you discover more.. Life is an adventure., make the best of it.!
My adventure begins in The Big Apple, an unplanned stop courtesy of Delta. Flight delays out of DC landed me in New York for a whole day, so I decided to take a photo walk around Central Park and Manhattan. I think they call it making lemonade.! | Monday October 11 Columbus Day
A great day for people watching...in Central Park
 and for walking the dog!
Tuesday October 12 | Finally arrived in Rixensart, a day later than planned, and sans luggage.. Seems they shipped my bags to Amsterdam instead. Spent the afternoon relaxing and enjoying the view from Pam and Pete's lovely home..
Wednesday October 13 | A day in the Belgian countryside, complete with castles and abbeys and a little bit of farmland. This is the Belgium most Americans don't get to see. Miss GPS added to the adventure by taking us on cobblestone and dirt roads.
 Chateau Veves | Unfinished Chateau
Madonna & Child Celles Chapel | Monastery at Celles
 Abbaye Villers-la-Ville
The tranquility of these ruins is amazing!
Bruges is perhaps the favorite destination of most visitors to Belgium, and for a very good reason. Untouched by the Germans during WWII, it's Medieval flavor and canals make the city magical! | Thursday October 14
Best Hostess & Tour Guide Pamela
Off to Cologne for a weekend with Karin & Kerstin, my adopted German sister and her daughter. Unfortunately, my wallet got lifted in the Brussels train station, .credit cards and cash, gone! Fortunately, they didn't get my passport! | Friday October 15 | Karin and Me | Kerstin
The Cologne Cathedral is so massive it is impossible to photograph in its entirety unless you are halfway across the river. I ended up taking most of my photos inside.
Saturday October 16 | Cologne Botanical Gardens
Saturday October 16 | Cologne Zoo and Aquarium | Someone told me It's all happening at the zoo. I do believe it, I do believe it's true.!
Sunday October 17 (travel day) | Monday & Tuesday October 18-19 | Brussels The architecture alone makes Brussels a city to visit. The food isn't half bad either. As Pamela says, "Calories don't count when you're on vacation!"
The Sablon District - Where High Society Meets and Eats
Grand Place/Grote Markt - Grand architecture dating back to the 13th century
Cathedrale St Michel & St Gudula | No museums this trip, the cathedrals offered plenty of art to enjoy!
