43: GOBA 2010 was Nikki and Jesse's first bike ride together. The ride was a week long biking/camping adventure that went through Ohio's most beautiful hill country. The ride started in Logan and journeyed through the Hocking Hills and Wayne National Forest. Our first night was in Logan on Saturday June 19th. We went to the Washboard Music Festival and to the washboard factory that still assembles authentic washboards. The next morning we woke up and broke down our tents and packed all of our luggage in semis to be hauled to our next location. We biked 47 miles to McConnelsville. Once we arrived at McConnelsville we quickly threw on our swim suits and hoped in a friends car to drive over to Burr Oak State Park. There we went swimming and cooled down from our long day. On Monday we biked 43 miles to Marietta where we camped at Marietta College. We were again able to find some water and cool down from the heat by driving over to a local pool. The next morning was an optional day but the group decided to go biking and explore the very hilly areas around Marietta.
44: We ended up biking 50 miles and encountering some very steep hills. After biking we were able to find a laundromat to catch up on some laundry and we enjoyed playing card games with our friends. We had dinner and beer at the Marietta Brewing Company in downtown Marietta. On Wednesday we set off to Athens and ended up biking 49 miles. We camped outside of the community recreation center. That night we met Paul's old fraternity brother Boyd Ruth and his family for dinner. They prepared a wonderful dinner and we enjoyed playing with their kids. The next day was another optional day and Paul, Sara and Nikki took the day off to spend more time with Boyd and his family. Paul went to Boyd's family farm and Nikki and Sara went to the local pool to relax. Jesse biked with Mike and Sherry and put in 62 hilly miles in Meigs County. Everyone got together that night and went to dinner in downtown Athens at a very nice restaurant. On Friday morning we biked 52 hilly miles from Athens to McArthur. On our way in to McArthur we were greeted by the local 4-H girls and employees of the local bank.
45: McArthur really rolled out the red carpet for GOBA and truly appreciated us being there. That night in their High School Football stadium we watched the GOBA song contest. We still have the songs in our head. The next morning we biked 47 miles from McArthur back to Logan to end our week long adventure. The last day was a little somber because we knew our trip was coming to an end and we truly enjoyed our biking adventure. Nikki was shocked that she felt like she could have biked for another week. We look forward to doing GOBA again! -Jesse Back
