 The Road to Hana
 ...and beyond
The Road to Hana is 52 miles from Kahului, and contains over 600 curves and 54 one-lane bridges. This scenic drive is full of spectacular views of the ocean, crashing surf, lava cliffs, cascading waterfalls, fruitful rainforest, and colorful Hawaiian flora. Beyond Hana is ranchland and the barren landscape of the southern slope of Haleakala.
Pa'iloa Bay | Pa'iloa Bay | Hills of Hana | Black Sand Beach
Ohe'o Gulch | Ranchland | Barren Landscape | Southern Maui Coast
Iao Valley is home to the towering 1200 foot Iao Needle. It is also the place of a famous battle site where King Kamehameha I defeated the Maui army in an effort to unite the Hawaiian Islands in 1790.
 The "Business Meeting"
Mount Haleakala, with a summit height of 10,023 feet is considered an active, but not currently erupting, volcano, which last erupted in 1790. It alone is approximately half the size of Maui. To get there, one must be willing to drive close to 40 miles up a spiraling roadway. It is also home to a Silversword plant species found only above 7.000 feet.
During our drive on the North-Western Shoreline of Maui, we saw the Nakalele Blowhole, the Olivine Pools, and the beautiful coastal scenery.
 Oahu side trip
 Waikiki Beach
In our bright orange-yellow Ford Mustang convertible, we drove along the Eastern Shoreline (Windward) from Waikiki up to the Northern Shoreline of Waimea Bay. Here are a handful of photos highlighting the scenery along the way.
Here are some photos from Waikiki Beach (day and night), our hotel, Diamond Head, and the Lighthouse.
