S: Overland Track - Tasmania - May 2011
FC: Overland Track | May 2011
Overland Tack Bob, Skye, Tim, Nathan & Holly went on an adventure to see what Tasmania had to offer. In the colder months (May 2011) the track lived up to its famous reputation for beauty. | A 6 day trek through some of Australia's most beautiful untouched scenery; from button grass fields to Myrtle forests and snow covered plateaus. Trekking during snow storms and beautiful sunshine, we will never forget the adventure we shared.
Boat Shed | Glacier Rock | Lichen
DAY 1 Dove Lake and surrounds Although Bob's bag was lost in transit, we made the most of the beautiful weather to explore Dove Lake with the scenic backdrop of Cradle Mountain. The first encounter with a common wombat brought much excitement, until we realised they were everywhere, counting more then 11 in 2 hours. Top: Dove Lake & Cradle Mt. 4: Dove Lake, Boat Shed & Ronny Creek board walk
DAY 2 Ronny Creek - Waterfall Vally Hut 10.5 km Our first day of hiking brought with it an overcast day and snow storms, as we climbed towards Cradle Mountain and down to Waterfall Valley, for our first night of freezing weather. | Start - Ronny Creek
 Nothofagus gunnii | Crater Lake | Marions Lookout - 1223 m
Kitchen Hut | Cradle Plateau | Nothofagus gunnii
 Cradle Mountain
DAY 3 Waterfall Valley - Barn Bluff - Windermere Hut 16.6 km With beautiful weather, Bob set off with our new-found friends and we returned to climb Barn Bluff. At 1559 m, with snow covered boulders, it was a scary adventure with great rewards.

Day 4 Windermere Hut - Pelion Hut 16.2 km Another beautiful day brought with it a challenging hike and some cold weather. Icy paths and rocks made for a slow and careful journey.
Pine Forest Moor & Bennett Wallabies
DAY 5 Pelion Hut - Kira Ora Hut 9 km Snowfall overnight lead to the much anticipated climb of Mount Ossa being abandoned. However, hiking in the snow was a great trade off, bringing breath-taking scenery.
 Pelion Gap - 1126m
Mt Doris & Mt Ossa - Pelion Gap
 Ducane Range | Pinestone Valley
Fergunson Falls | D'Alton Falls | Falling Mountain
Kira Ora Hut - Narcissus Hut 19 km Making an early start, we had a hard hike with slippery paths, rain and cold wind. After a very long day of being cold and wet, Narcissus Hut was a pleasant relief despite being very crowed. | Falling Mountain
Day 7 Narcissus Hut - Lake St Claire 14 km Boat ride The rain had set in overnight, so a boat ride instead of a 17km walk was appreciated. Although choppy and still getting wet, it was a great way to end our fantastic trekking adventure.
 Finish - Lake St Claire
Day 8 Lake St Claire - Hobart After being snowed in and having to spend an extra night at Lake St Claire (with the joys of a shower and real food rather then dehydrated meals) we made our way to Hobart for a couple of relaxing days and fantastic wining and dining.
