S: Superstition Mountains
BC: That's All Folks ! | completed by M. Gabbert on 5/14/2011
We took a camping trip to the Superstitions on the week end of 2/18//11 to 2/20/11. We go at least once a year, usually during the winter months. The summers are too hot. This time of year is great for hiking and we did just that. Got some different perspectives of the same mountains. They are not an overly large mountain range, but very rugged. and beautiful with the lower surrounding desert.
We started out the first day on what ended up being a three mile hike. The day was a little breezy but not cold. There were actual clouds as it was supposed to rain. Rain is a happy circumstance in Arizona, as we don't get much of it. The next day we finally got rain late in the afternoon.
Starting out down prospectors trail. The Superstitions were prospected for many years trying to find the Dutchman's Lost Mine !
Bill checking out the scenery before we continue on. There are many interesting views along the way.
Desert Scenery.. same picture, different perspective | The desert is fairly flat here, although we did go down some washes and back up. The ground is pretty rocky so there is a lot of uneven walking.
Give me land, lots of land and the starry skies above.............................Don't fence me in !!!!!!
Nice view with the Saguaro in the for ground
took this from lower down in the wash, looking up.
Believe it or not, this is a Grey Cardinal. They are native to the Southwest. The males may have a little bit of red on them, but not much. I looked this up because it's the first time I ever saw one; and I have been living out here for almost 40 yrs. I tried to get closer but my camera batteries gave out ! Just my luck.
A different view from behind some dead tree parts..
 Goldfield Mining Town
Goldfield :the 1st discovery of high grade gold ore was made in 1892. There were 50 paying claims in this area
more than 3 million $ of gold was taken from Goldfield @ the price of $20.67 per oz.
Bill is enjoying the view here. Lots of stuff to see. Goldfield was having a Chili Cooking Contest the day we were here. It was a little windy though !
This is me. I prefer taking the pictures, rather than being in them. We spent the majority of the morning here and had lunch and went back to our Campsite. There are lots of little touristy specialty shops. You can get anything from junk to good stuff. They also have the gunfight in the street fun, fun, fun !
And finally it rains & the mountains are enshrouded in mist.....Just beautiful..
