5: B | Brackenridge Park is located just below the headwaters of San Antonio. It has been a gathering place since the prehistoric times. Native American artifacts from as early as 9200 b.c. have been found there. Brackenridge park is over 344 acres. It is home to the San Antonio zoo. | Recreation

6: c | Santa Elena Canyon is visible over ten miles away. It is located in Big Bend National park. It is one of the most famous canyons on the Rio Grande. It separates the limestone mesas of the Mesa de Anguila on the northern or Texas side of the river from the Sierra Ponce on the southern or Mexican side. | Landforms

7: D | The Dickson Monument is located in Wharton County, TX. It is in front of the Wharton County Courthouse. It is on memory of Hamilton B. Dickson who was killed in 1894. He was so widely respected that trains were chartered from distant points to accommodate the huge attendance at his funeral. | Hist. Importance

8: E | Lake Eanes is located three miles south of Comanche in southern Comanche county. The lake is situated in an area of steep slopes and benches, where shallow clay loams support juniper, live oak, mesquite, and grasses. It was named for J.R. Eanes , the mayor of Comanche. Lake Eanes furnished water for Comanche and neighboring areas. It also has a capacity of acres. | Water

9: F | Fiesta Texas is located in San Antonio, Texas. It is known for it's Six Flags which is seansonally operated. SIx Flags was established in 1996. Time Warner operated the park until the middle of the 1998 season and introduced the Hopkins Super Flume Bug's White Water Rapids, that is theme to the Looney Tunes character Bugs Bunny. | Recreation

10: G | The Guadalupe Mountains is located in Culberson County, Texas. The Guadalupe Mountains has an elevation of 8,751 feet. Earliest human evidence here is from 12,000 years ago. Guadalupe Peak and the Guadalupe Mountains are one of the windiest places in the United States. Guadalupe Peak is the highest point in texas. | Landforms

11: H | The Bob Bullock Historical museum is located in downtown Austin, Texas. It has three floors of interactive exhibits. The Bob Bullock Historical museum also holds Austin's only IMAX theatre. It is in memory of Lt. Bob bullock who died Jan. 1999. The museum was established in 1996. | Hist. Importance

12: The Interior Coastal Plains extends from the Gulf of Mexico inland to the Balcones Fault and the Eastern Cross Timbers. It is a relatively flat area and is adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. This large area, including the Texas barrier islands, stretches from the cities of Paris to San Antonio to Del Rio but shows a large variety in vegetation. | I | Landforms

Lubbock's nickname is the "Hub City," which derives from it being the economic, education, and health care hub of a multi-county region commonly called the South Plains. Lubbock was selected as the 12th best place to start a small business by CNNMoney.com. The county of Lubbock was founded in 1876, named after Thomas Saltus Lubbock, former Texas Ranger. 16: The Davis Mountains are located in Jeff Davis County. The Davis Mountains, the most extensive mountain range in Texas, were formed by volcanic activity during the Tertiary geologic period. These mountains were named after Jefferson Davis, U.S. Secretary of War and later President of the Confederacy. Most Indian bands passed through the Davis Mountains. 17: Navasota is a city in Grimes County, Texas. It is known as the "Blues Capital of Texas". Navasota was founded in 1831 as the stagecoach stop of Nolansville. Its name was changed in 1858 to Navasota, a name perhaps derived from the Native American word nabatoto. In 1908, Navasota was a lawless boom town, wracked by violence. 18: Oblate School of Theology is located in San Antonio, Texas. Oblate School of Theology was founded in San Antonio in 1903 as the San Antonio Philosophical and Theological Seminary. The School’s initial goal and mission was to educate young men to serve as Oblate missionaries in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Mexico and the Philippines. Today, Oblate School of Theology prepares men for priesthood from many dioceses across the United States. 21: Rice University is located in Houston, Texas. It was opened in 1912 after the murder of its namesake William Marsh Rice. Rice acted as a temporary intermediary in the transfer of land between Humble Oil and Refining Company and NASA. 28: Yantis is a town in Wood County, Texas. As of the census of 2000, the total population was 321 people, 144 households, and 84 families. it has an elevation of 486 ft. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.9 square miles, all of it land. | Y | Cities

29: Zilker Park is located in Austin, Texas. It is named after its benefactor Andrew Jackson Zilker, who donated the land to the city in 1917. The park was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on 1997. The large size of the park makes it a capable venue for large scale events such as the Austin City Limits Music Festival and the Zilker Park Kite Festival. Zilker Park comprises over 350 acres of publicly owned land. | Z
