Thanksgiving in Delaware 2010 - Page Text Content

BC: May The Bounty Of The Season Fill Your Heart And Your Home | Created by Betty December 10, 2010

FC: Newark, Delaware | November 2010

"Thanksgiving Day will soon be here It comes around but once a year If I could only have my way, We'd have Thanksgiving every day." | Inside the beautiful home

1 of 4 bedrooms at the Slater house | Newly remodeled bathroom

"There is always something for which to be thankful." -Charles Dickens | Looking way too serious

Mini Christmas tree in living room | "Lighting up" Mr. Reindeer

Thanksgiving yard decorations | This is Reilly, Greg and Allison's "little puppy." He was such a good dog!

 A Day Of Thanks

 Thanksgiving table setting

We Give Thanks | One of many dishes being prepared for the big Thanksgiving meal.

One of many awesome "Slater" fires. | My contribution to Turkey day was peach cobbler. | The liquor table

Allison carving the turkey. Check out the ring on her finger! | Greg and Allison had just gotten back from a trip to Paris, where they were engaged.

Homemade apple & pumpkin pie | Mrs. Slater made the traditional stuffing. Steve and Judi, friends of Mr. and Mrs. Slater, also came for Thanksgiving dinner. Among the turkey and stuffing was corn, mashed potatoes, broccoli/cheese casserole, cranberries, and sweet potatoes. | Allison made a Reuben Dip and a White Bean and Roasted Red Pepper Hummus for snacks. She also made stuffed mushrooms with spinach and goat cheese for a side dish.

The house all lit up at nighttime.

The Slaters are Pittsburgh Steelers fans!

Rather than going out and fighting the madness of "Black Friday," we went to visit the Schmidt's Tree Farm in Landenberg, PA to find a Christmas tree. I have never been to a tree farm before so I knew I was in for a really big treat. This is also the farm where Mike and Greg both worked for about 10 years.

 The Slater Family

We took a short wagon ride on the tree farm to get to where all the Christmas trees were. There were just rows and rows of different types of Christmas trees. I had no idea there was more than one kind of Christmas tree.

Greg points out the lucky winner. | We stopped for a quick picture with all the Christmas trees. | 2010

Since I had never cut down a Christmas tree before, I was given the opportunity. I was very honored to do it but quickly ran out of strength. Greg had to finish the job.

The tree that Mr. and Mrs. Slater picked was a Douglas Fir. There were at least 3 different types of trees on this farm. Mike and his dad carried the tree to be prepared for packing.

This was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Before the tree could be wrapped up for transportation, it goes through a process of being shaken up to make sure nests, bugs, and other materials didn't go home with the tree. Then it was placed onto a machine where a netting type of material covered the tree...all ready to transport home.

They had actual reindeer on the farm. Mike said that this was either Douglas or Fraser, he wasn't sure which one.

Headed back home with a Christmas tree!
