FC: JOURNEY TO ASIA 2012

Utah | jAPAN | ARRIVED 17 MAY 2012 | Ben had the opportunity of a lifetime to visit six different countries in Asia through a BYU study abroad program. This enabled him to receive the Global Management Certificate, BYU's equivalent of a minor in international business. He departed on his journey, leaving Salt Lake City, Utah on May 16th 2012 and arriving in Tokyo, Japan fourteen hours later, leaving his beautiful wife, Trisha, and his bouncing rottweiler, Roxy. This is where his Asian adventure began... | Hello Asia | JAPAN | CAMBODIA | THAILAND | TAIWAN | CHINA | HONG KONG

Ben made it to Japan where he was able to observe the Japanese tradition of sumo wrestling. The ring is called the dohyo, and their costume is called a mawashi. They perform a ceremony before each match and then try to get their opponent out of the dohyo. Ben was able to experience both ancient and modern Japanese culture

The arch shown above is a memorial of the World War II bombing in Hiroshima, Japan. The devastation that occurred here acts as a reminder of the need for peace in this world. While touring the memorial Ben felt zero animosity towards the American people, and only a solemn respect for human life and world peace. Ben also was able to visit sacred temple grounds of both the LDS and Buddhist religions.

AYRES ROCK/ULURU the world's largest monolith and an Aboriginal sacred site is Australia's most famous natural landmark. | ANGKOR WAT- This capital city was built during the 12th century and abandoned in the 15th century. It was then engulfed by the jungle until the 19th century. Ben was able to view this hidden treasure while in Cambodia.

ADVENTURE | Ben experienced the cultures of south east Asia visiting historic WWII sights, national monuments, and natural wonders including a boat ride down the River Kwai, a hike through the Thai jungle, and a plunge into a Cambodian waterfall.

THAILAND | LAND OF THE ELEPHANT

Tiger Temple | YES, THESE TIGERS ARE ALIVE AND REAL!

Ben was able to visit the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial during his visit to Taiwan. The architectural beauty and grandeur of the memorial embodied the essence of the Taiwanese Revolution and their independence from mainland China.

through history | Over the next few pages you will have the opportunity to see the amazing economic development and infrastructure created by both past and present Chinese/Taiwanese dynasties. | Travel
