48: Linda, Bill, Donna & John ~ Travels in Italy May 6: Flights from Memphis and Norfolk to Boston; Boston to Rome. The adventure begins! May 7: The Amalfi Coast! Arriving in Rome, we catch a train to Naples; Luigi taxis us to our villa in Praiano. The curvy roads, the hills...oh mio! May 8: A walk along the Amalfi coast from Praiano to Positano (about 5 km) shows us the beauty of the region. Lunch and sightseeing before our first taste of Italian gelato. May 9: A bus to Amalfi where it rains off and on as we stroll through the town, tour the Museum of Paper, enjoy pizza at Locanda del Marinaio, and eat more gelato. May 10: A bus to Sorrento and a ferry to the Isle of Capri. After lunch at Aris and a leisurely stroll, we catch a bus to Capri Town for a tour of Villa San Michele. May 11: A lazy day in Praiano with lunch at Trattoria san Quenuaro and an attempt at the steep climb down to the ocean (half way for Linda and Donna; John went the entire way; Bill chose not to try). May 12: A bus, then a train to the ancient ruin of Pompeii. After a quick lunch outside the ruin, we explore the vastness and astounding beauty of what was once a great city. May 13: Another lazy day in Praiano, with a wonderful dinner at Il Laghetoo del Valico. May 14: On to Tuscany! Luigi drives us to Naples, a train to Florence, and a rental car to our villa in Orentano. Friends, Cindy and Steve, join us for dinner at Vito Re Della Pizza. May 15: A morning in Luccca as Cindy and Steve share their favorite Tuscan city. We spend a rainy morning strolling the streets, with a stop for pastry and cappacino. Later, a Tuscan brunch at Panificio Il Buon Pane. And still later, a lite dinner, wine and a game of Tripoley with Cindy & Steve. May 16: A drive to the old walled city of Siena. After wine and lunch at Ristorante da Renzo, a stroll through the city streets. Magico! May 17: A drive through the Tuscan hills to Volterra, a relatively slow paced, delightful hill town. Lunch outdoors at II Giardinetto, followed by a stroll through town. We find artists at work in their studio/ storefronts.

49: A further drive into the hills to San Gimignano, the most photographed Tuscan hill town. Already exhausted, we stroll only a short while before heading back to Orentano. May 18: After burning out the clutch of our rental car on the drive back to the villa from San Gimignano, Linda, Bill and Donna enjoy a day of leisure on the grounds of the villa while John deals with the stress of getting a new rental. Later in the day, a hike on the city wall of Lucca. May 19: A drive to Florence to join our Tuscan Bike Tour, but find we must postpone due to bad directions. Instead we discover the beauty that is Florence! A leisurely stroll through the streets followed lunch and wine at Sancho Panza Vittoria. May 20: We join the bike tour. Linda and Donna celebrate their 63rd birthday on an 18km climb and descent through the Tuscan Hills. The reverse downhills were a killer! Mid-point tour, lunch and wine tasting at Vino Della Fattoria delle Corti. Bill opted for the van, the rest of us enjoyed the victory of the ride. May 21: Off to Rome! A drive to Florence, train to Rome, taxi to the apartment (almost), and a long walk over cobblestones before we climb 62 steps, luggage in tow, to our apartment door. A walk around the neighborhood brought us face-to-face with the Pantheon and Bernini's elephant. Dinner, outdoors, at Pizeria Cafe. May 22: A walk to, and tour of, Paletine Hill and the Colosseum, and an early dinner at Hostaria de Pastini Pizzeria. May 23: Our final full day in Rome...a walk to the Victor Emmanuel Monument and a walk and elevator ride to the top for a panoramic view of Rome. After lunch, a bus to Vatican City to tour Saint Peters Bassilica and St Peters Square. Later that night, a stroll to the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Via del Corso. Our final Italian gelato finished the evening. May 24: A late morning flight from Rome to Boston...then on to Memphis and Norfolk. Quote of the trip..."Do we know where we're going?" (Bill) The Amalfi Coast, Tuscany, Rome. Each unique and all amazingly beautiful! Bell'Italia!
