8: Relics of St. Francis | Top Left & Right: Slippers and white tunic worn by St. Francis. Bottom Left: Soft piece of leather placed over his wounds from his stigmata. | These two items were found in 1818 after St. Francis' tomb was opened up to move the body to prevent possible theft. The stone was used as a pillow for the saint and had been there since 1230. There was also eleven coins found. The dates on these coins confirmed the saint's birth, death and burial. | Chalice and Patten
