S: "Our Story" Mindi & Ryan Volume 1

BC: To Be Continued...

FC: Our Story | Ryan & Mindi

God 's Creative Introduction... | Both of us had reached a point in life where we were content just having God in our lives. Having both been through emotionally trying relationships prior, we tried to set our sights on finding our God given purpose in life rather than a significant other. One day my Facebook profile showed itself in Ryan's "People you may know" section. Upon looking at my profile he noticed my artwork. He mistook me for a professional and messaged me to inquire how a starving artist could survive in Racine, thus spawning a month long correspondence. Here, you have pictures that mark our very first look at each other! | November 18, 2010

"Hmm... So u kinda get me. Min we should meet. Wait, let me rephrase that in a more gentlemanly manner lol. How would like to grab a cup of Java with me, or whatever else is all the rage these days at a chill place of your choosing?" -Ryan | Our 1st Date! | After both getting off work late there weren't many options for places to meet. We chose Denny's, a 24 hour joint, to have coffee and officially meet for the first time! Though we were just meeting it felt like we'd known each other for years. We spent hours sharing about the work God had done in our lives and finally ended our night, or morning rather, at 3 a.m.! | December 5, 2011

Ryan came over to watch a movie, however, the night included more deep conversation than movie watching. Upon the sweetest kiss goodnight Ryan slipped out a beautiful "I Love You." It came out so fast I almost missed it! I confessed my mutual feelings for him and spent the rest of the night journaling about this amazing love God placed before us. | December 21, 2010 We said "I Love You"

"..God has been working in us Ryan, He really has been getting us ready at the same time, preparing us for this wonderful love. And I can't help but feel like I'm on top of the world wanting to throw my arms up and shout over the mountain tops that I love you, I love this, I love God, I love you!!" -Mindi (Journal Entry 12/21/10)

 Days, Weeks, Months Passed....

We laughed, cried, argued and made up. Spent time with great friends and took road trip adventures. All the while growing closer to each other and closer to the God that brought us together...

 Friendship turned into love....

 ...then love turned to commitment.

After getting out of a very long on-again-off-again relationship earlier that year and several awful dates after, I got the crazy idea to start a new journal. This wouldn't be just any journal, this was going to be my very own account of "My quest for Mr. Right!" I had accumulated some pretty funny mishaps from dates already and figured I needed to start writing some of this down if only for my own comic relief later in life. So...I started out my journal with all the qualities I was looking for in a mate and also qualities I knew my faith in God demanded from a man. I listed them all and began praying for this elusive man. I planned on journaling about any man that crossed my path and also any prayers surrounding them. What I didn't plan, however, was meeting Ryan only a month after I started this.

Ryan and I started to become serious and I had been journaling the whole time, all the way from our first contact to our first date and on. I wrote and wrote, and our story was growing longer chapter by chapter. I often found myself re-reading many of the entries from our first few dates and before I knew it I was reading the entire thing all the time. In amazement I watched as God was healing both of us. We had come to each other broken in many ways from things in our past, but amidst the brokenness our hearts were aching to be closer to God. And after reading through our story several times I came to the realization that we were helping each other grow closer to Him just by being together. All of a sudden this journal that had started out being something funny I thought I'd enjoy reading later in life, became very dear to me. I wanted to remember everything that was happening in my life with Ryan. I never wanted these memories to fade in my mind with age so I began writing down every feeling, every experience Ryan and I shared. On our first Valentine's Day together I gave this journal to him. I wanted him to know how deeply I cared for him and this amazing gift God had given us. I gave him the journal under the condition that it would then become "our" journal to each other. We were to make entries and leave it for the other to find.

More time passed and the journal began to fill up. We shared our thoughts and feelings on all of our experiences together, our love, and even our disagreements. We found that sometimes it was easier to write things down when we were upset than it was to discuss it in the heat of the moment. As of late I had the journal but hadn't had time to write an entry in it. The night before we got engaged I felt compelled to write him and tell him of how excited I was for our life together. I also mentioned somewhere in there about how it didn't matter if we were engaged for another year, I was just happy to spend every moment I had with him. (though I started to worry he might take me up on that lol) I left it for him that night.

The next day we had plans to go to Holy Hill in Hubertus, Wisconsin. It was amazing weather! 74 degrees and gorgeous with all the fall leaves turning color. The drive was just as beautiful. We hiked up to the church and climbed the 178 stairs to the top of the bell tower. Once at the top, you can see for miles! This time of year, it was the most beautiful sight. When we finally made it to the top we found a window to perch by and Ryan asked a lady nearby to take a picture of us. He told me he made an entry in the journal and gave it to me to read. Inside was an amazing letter from him and when I turned the page to continue reading he had cut out a heart shape in the remaining pages and inside was a ring and the words "Would you MARRY ME!?" So at the top of the bell tower, looking out over God's amazing creation, Ryan got on his knee and proposed. I was pretty much in tears before I even turned the page so naturally when I saw the ring I turned into a water faucet which a kind lady happened to catch in perfect timing with Ryan's camera!

 October 8, 2011 | WE'RE ENGAGED!!

A day and a moment we'll never forget!

The first people we told were our parents. Then we spent the rest of the day sight seeing near Holy Hill and also stopped at an apple orchard. We shared some fresh apple pie and made a stop at a pumpkin farm just down the road to pick up some front porch decor. The weather was gorgeous and the day was perfect!
