S: R + C Engagement - 9.23.2010
BC: On September 23rd, we wanted to spend some time together before Ricky moved up to Seattle, so the plan was for Ricky to come up to Chelsie's house after she got off work. When she finally made it home, she walked up to the front door and was greeted by roses and a note, but no Ricky! Of course, the note was from Ricky and it said that Chelsie had a scavenger hunt to go on! It was the most amazing proposal idea- everything about it was perfect! The scavenger hunt led Chelsie around and outside the house, and at each location there was beautiful roses, candles, and a very sweet note that showed Ricky's love and appreciation for Chelsie. The last note was found in her room, and it said, "Now we are going to go meet our families at Lemon Grass for dinner to celebrate my new career and to all spend some time together before I move. Open your sliding glass door for your last surprise!" Prior to this, Chelsie was not sure how this scavenger hunt was going to end, but after reading the last note, she thought that Ricky was just being extra sweet and romantic because he was moving in two days and he planned this fun night as one last horrah before moving! She had no idea what-so-ever when she opened her sliding glass door that she would find Ricky....on one knee and ready to propose!! Chelsie was soooo happy, surprised, and excited beyond belief and said YES, of course! Dinner was fabulous, and the whole engagement was perfect in every way- very special, meaningful, exciting, and very very sparklie (thanks to the gorgeous ring Ricky picked out!) and full of smiles, laughter, family, and delicious food!! It couldn't have been better! | the proposal

1: Date of Proposal: September 23, 2010 | The story of how we met, told by Ricky: Going back to the day where it all began, it was freshman orientation for UW. I had one of my best friends with me that was not even attending UW sneak in and go to orientation with me so that it wouldn't be as boring. In the first group we were put into, the leader wanted us to pick a partner that was sitting across from us to do an ice-breaker game with. I was kind of bummed that my friend Juan and I were going to have to split up until I saw the most beautiful girl that I ever laid eyes on across the room from me that did not yet have a partner. We both looked at each other and I got a weird butterfly feeling in my stomach and I knew right then and there that we had some kind of deep connection which I believe was love at first sight! I was no longer disappointed that Juan and I had to split up, in fact I was excited about it. During the ice breaker, I learned her name, her interests, and that she was from Olympia, but her family was originally from Aberdeen- my hometown! We had several things in common, but soon it was time to switch groups and do something else. At that point, Chelsie and I got put into different groups, and I was worried that with the size of UW, I would not see her again. Luckily, the next day, at the very last part of orientation, I ran into her while I was in line at Subway. She was with her mom getting ready to head back home, and asked me how I had enjoyed orientation and if I got my classes picked out. I couldn't remember what classes I had, so I pulled out my class schedule and handed it to her. She got a strange look on her face, pulled out her schedule, and said that we had the exact same classes and schedule! We could not believe it...with the size of UW and all the different choices we each could have made, the odds were very slim of this happening. But it did and that is where it all started out...freshman orientation in 2005 at the age of 18. After orientation, it only got better and better from there. We went to classes together, ate meals together, and studied together. We started dating and I would have her sit on the handlebars of my bike and give her rides back and forth to her sorority pedaling uphill with her on the handlebars. I never let her walk home in the dark, I made sure she was safe and then I pedaled back to my dorm. It was definitely true love and it has only gotten much deeper and stronger!
