FC: Geremie & Cassie April 28, 2007

The love of a family is life's greatest blessing.

"Parents hold their children's hands for a while, their hearts for a lifetime."

Children and mothers never truly part - bound in the beating of each other's heart. -Charlotte Gray

We are gathered here in God's presence to witness the marriage of Geremie and Cassie and to ask God to bless them. Marriage, like our creation as men and women, owes its very existence to God. It is God's will and intention that a husband and wife should love each other throughout their lives. Marriage is an act of faith and ever-deepening commitment, as well as a loving union between a man and a woman. It has been described as the best and the most important relationship that two people can share, the creation of a single growing energy of spiritual life. Marriage can be a lifelong unfolding of loving kindness, backed by the will to make it last. There is no limit to the knowing of another's soul, and when you learn to love one person, then you grow in love for all of humanity.

Let us pray. O God, the creator of all things; who made us and who sustains us; we depend on you. For the gift of life, we praise you. For being able to think about its meaning and purpose, we thank you. In the world without, and our lives within, there is much that is confusing and contradictory. Many voices counsel us; many forces pressure us; many things tempt us. We need your light to lead us, your hand to hold us, and your love to complete us. In Jesus's name we ask for your blessing now. Amen.

Who gives this woman to be married? Her mother and I do.

Geremie and Cassie, I call to your attention the seriousness of the decision which you have made and the covenant you are about to declare before God. Be very clear that your marriage is dependent upon your dedication to be faithful to each other and faithful to your understanding of God's will for your marriage. Unfaithfulness in either is a betryal of your covenant. Constant and continuous obedience to your vows will result in a marriage which will be blessed, a home which will be a place of peace, and a relationship in which you both grow in love.

Geremie, will you have this women to be your wedded wife, to live together in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love her, comfort her, honor and keep her in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, keep only unto her, so long as you both shall live? | I WILL

Cassie, will you have this man to be your wedded husband, to live together in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love him, comfort him, honor and keep him in sickness and in health, and forsaking all others, keep you only unto him, so long as you both shall live? | I WILL

Genesis 2: 18 - 24 And the Lord God said, "It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him. Out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field. But for Adam, there was not found a helper comparable to him. | And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bone, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman because she was taken out of Man." Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

1 Corinthians 13: 1 - 13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greastest of these is love.

I, Geremie, take you Cassie to be my wife, my constant friend, my faithful partner, and my love from this day forward. In the presence of God, I offer you my solemn vow to cherish our union and love you more each day than I did the day before. I will trust you and respect you, laugh with you and cry with you, loving you faithfully through good times and bad, regardless of the obstacles we may face together. I give you my hand, my heart, and my love, from this day forward for as long as we both shall live.

I, Cassie, take you Geremie to be my husband, my constant friend, my faithful partner, and my love from this day forward.

May these rings be blessed as a symbol of this affectionate unity. Your two lives are being joined today in one unbroken circle. Wherever you go, may you always return to one another in your togetherness. May you find in one another the love for which all men and women yearn. May you grow in understanding and compassion. May these rings, soon to be on your fingers, symbolize the touch of the spirit of love that is in both your hearts. Bless, O Lord, the giving of these rings that they who wear them may abide in thy peace, and continue in thy favor, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Geremie, please repeat after me. In token pledge of our constant faith and abiding love, with this ring I thee wed, In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. | Cassie, please repeat after me. In token pledge of our constant faith and abiding love, with this ring I thee wed. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Foreasmuch as Geremie and Cassie have consented together in holy matrimony, and have witnessed the same before God and this company, I pronounce that they are Husband and Wife, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen. What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.

Let us pray. May God bless, preserve and keep you; the Lord mercifully with His favor look upon you, and fill you with all spiritual benediction and grace; that you may so live together in this life, that in the world to come you may have life everlasting. Amen.

This flame has traditionally been thought of as a symbol of the spirit. Geremie and Cassie, you have learned much in your individual lives. Your mothers are both here to bless your marriage, and it is fitting that they have lit the two individual candles you see here; for it is they who by the grace of God brought you life and taught you your first lessons about love. Your family members and friends, many of whom are here with you today, have all been a part of your individual lives and have shared with you your hopes, your dreams, your triumphs, your sufferings.

But at some point the two of you met one another, and something started growing between you that was not just Geremie and not just Cassie. There's a special way you are together that's not like the way you've ever been with anyone else. You have a way of sharing with each other, of laughing and joking together, that's unlike with anybody else. That special love you felt for one another continued to grow, bringing you to this moment, when you are committing your love to one another and building a life together. Just as the flame you are about to light is not created solely by either candle, so too is your love not the sole possession or creation of either of you. As a symbol of the spirit of love that has grown between you, I would like to ask you to light the Unity Candle at this time.

 "Inside Your Heaven"

Geremie and Cassie, let me give you this word of instruction. Give to one another new experiences of joy. Challenge one another so that you may grow. May the love you hold for each other, now sealed in marriage, continue to mature with the passing years. May you never take each other for granted but always experience the wonder of your union. Be slow to anger, quick to forgive, leaving no tracks of resentment behind each day. May your love consist not only in gazing into each other's eyes, but in looking outwards in the same direction. May your life together be a source of strength and inspiration to yourselves, your families, your friends, and to all whose lives you touch.

Congratulations, you may now kiss the bride.
