1: "This day I will marry my friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love."

2: Erin Lorraine Thomas and Anthony Nicholas Brady Garvan III are to be married on November 27, 2010, by Reverend Louise Leard at The Buccaneer Hotel in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Ms. Thomas, 25, is a doctoral degree candidate in Social Psychology at Yale University. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Yale University in 2007 and 2010. She is the second daughter of Alicia Ann Wilson-Thomas and Edward Lee Thomas of Chicago, Illinois. Erin's mother is the Senior Director of Perceptual and Applied Quantitative Sciences and Innovative Application at Kraft Foods in Glenview, Illinois. Erin's father is a Professional Development Consultant for Nightingale Conant, Inc., in Niles, Illinois. Mr. Garvan, 27, is a master's degree candidate in Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. He received his bachelor's degree from Yale University in 2006. Tony is the son of Joan Carol Garvan (formerly Hendricks) and Anthony Nicholas Brady Garvan II of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. His mother is the Dean of Veterinary Medicine at the University Pennsylvania. His father, now retired, was an English and History teacher and Head of the Upper School at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania. He is a descendant of 19th-century business tycoon Anthony Nicholas Brady and of Francis Patrick Garvan, President of the Chemical Foundation under President Woodrow Wilson, and his wife Mabel Brady Garvan, extensive collector of early American furniture and silver. The couple was featured in the New York Times Wedding Section on March 28, 1910.

3: In August 2009, Tony proposed to Erin at the Pacific Coast in San Francisco. She bawled like a baby and, days later, returned to Connecticut to begin another school year. In August 2010, Tony returned to the East Coast indefinitely to begin a master's degree program at Columbia University. He and Erin live in New Haven, Connecticut, in a tiny apartment with their kitten, Pippi Longstocking. The happy family spends their leisure time playing Scrabble (Erin and Tony), sitting on the Scrabble board while it's in use (Pippi), and discussing their research interests (all three). Tony is currently entrenched in the field of computational neuroscience, which approaches the brain as a circuit and has the potential for both engineering and medicinal implications. Erin, a doctoral-degree student, researches the dynamics of interracial interactions. Her work is often inspired by life with Tony. Erin and Tony met the night of the first snowfall of 2006. She, a carefree Yale College junior, was inappropriately dressed for the weather. He, a wiser Yale College senior, was clad in a heavy leather jacket and barely noticed the night's chill. They overlooked the pristine blanket of freshly fallen snow that covered her residential college's courtyard, talked and laughed about insignificant topics, and... lost touch for a month. He claims she said she'd call; she will forever deny such accusations. The estranged acquaintances reconnected via Facebook and they were inseparable from then on - except when Tony moved from Connecticut to California a year later. He had been hired as an engineer at Nanosolar, Inc., a solar-cell startup company, based first in Palo Alto, then in San Jose, California. The couple spent three and a half years phoning, Skyping, and red-eyeing to stay connected. Their phone bills and frequent flyer miles soared; their love grew at a comparable rate.
