FC: 2010: The year I turned 5
Joshua turned his intrinsic curiosity inward this year, wondering about the workings of the body, his goals and desires, and his vision of himself as an adult. (It seems too early to wonder about some of these things, but that Joshua does things according to his own agenda has long been established.) “Where does your poop go before it comes out? Why do we have eyeballs? How do we make blood?” he wanted to know. And that medicine he needed to take for an ear infection? No way. “It will ivivarate my blood!” he said, which is clearly not a good thing. He learned to love taking showers, and likes them long and with lots of body wash. He uses deodorant and stands bewitchingly in front of the mirror, frowning as he tries to get his cowlick to stay down. I look at him, and I know I’m going to miss this. The heft of his little body, his enthusiastic hugs, his soft snoring as he falls asleep in bed with me. I know there will come a day when he’ll be disinclined to snuggle. Already he objects to too much kissing. So I’ll just take advantage of it now, get all the kisses in I can while he’s still his little-boy self. But for the record: even when he’s all grown up, that’s still going to be MY dimple.

On June 10, Natalie and I were married. Sasha performed the ceremony using a Phineas and Ferb cartoon book and matching pipe-cleaner rings. She asked if Natalie would take me as her "loyalty husband" and if I would take her as my "beautiful wife." We both said yes. Then she said, "You may hug the bride." We later divorced, but remain good friends.
We went to the Wimberleys' new ranch in South Texas. It's a perfect place for a boy in the summer.
We went to SeaWorld in San Antonio.

I decided not to dress up for Halloween this year. Instead of trick-or-treating, I said it would be better to do something for other people, so I stayed home and handed out candy.
I turned five! For my mini-party at JJ's house after school, I chose a turkey cake, which tasted delicious, but was not fun to clean out of mom's new Honda Odessey when I dropped it on the way to Frankie and Vinnie's for dinner. (We laughed about it later.)
I got the black robe I wanted and an electric guitar!
I had a pony party at home, which, to my mom's surprise, annoyed me. But once it was underway, I had a fantastic time.
