S: The Maywald Family Adventures 2009-2010
BC: "And the Grinch, with his Grinch feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling...How could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes, or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled 'til his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before...what if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store? What if Christmas, perhaps...means a little bit more? -Dr. Seuss

from Anna's "journal" NEW YORK In New York we stayed somewhere where the playground was not too far away and the grass felt like cold wet carpet on your feet. I came outside every day where we were staying and ran around barefoot. They had a lot of bridges in New York too.
Our view of the Canadian skyline across the beautiful Lake Ontario...
Niagara Falls, NY | Since we were passing through Niagara Falls on their way to Vermont, and it was one of Dad's "bucket list"retirement adventures, we thought it would be fun to fly Mom and Dad straight to Buffalo so that Beck and her family could intercept them there and then bring them back to Vermont for awhile.. It was so much fun to experience Niagara with such a big group of family.
wildflowers, wild life, & wild little girls
Dad's "illegal" flower made us all smile | simple pleasures
Beck's "tiny little nephew", Josh | Maid of the Mist was so much fun. It took us right into the Horsheshoe Falls. The kids thought it was so much fun to get all wet, and the adults were stunned by the beauty and power of the falls.
It's impossible to describe the sounds of the massive amounts of water crashing over the edge of the falls. Such an incredible experience! | We got to climb right up to the base of the falls. There were several tiers, and of course, the higher we climbed, the more DRENCHED we got.
A very small string of islands... nothing fancy, but packed full of adventures. Exploring here was one of the kid's favorite parts of the day. | ...and the adults were just amazed at how close we were to the raging water that led straight to the falls... it's surprising there aren't more "accidents"
 Beautiful | Amazing
So relaxing...the self paced tour of the rest of the park was almost as beautiful as the falls themselves. | certain views looked like walls of water falling from nowhere...
The perfect end to a perfect day.... Sitting around with family enjoying the view, the campfire, some dutch oven cooking, and s'mores.
 Crossing to CANADA...
We couldn't come this far and not cross into Canada...dad got grilled by border patrol, because apparently they think all Texans carry guns. :) And mom got in trouble for taking a picture at the border crossing...but the Canada view of the falls was worth it completely.
 the Canada side
...a 5 pound chocolate bar ...mmm
(from Anna's journal) CANADA I was so excited about Canada. We went for a hoodie for me...we couldn't find one but we did find one at Niagara Falls (In New York) its pink with darker pink letters that say NIAGARA FALLS I like it a lot it is also very warm and fluffy. | ...souvenirs for Krystal and Lauren
Mick threatened to throw the camera over the falls if I stopped to take one more rainbow picture...but I couldn't help it. I've never seen so many in one day...sometimes two at a time...and touching the ground. The constant moisture in the air from the falls makes them much more prevalent...and vivid...beautiful!!
 Journey Behind the Falls
A view from the tunnels behind the water...
Next stop... Vermont and the Wilson's new home | from Anna's journal... In Vermont I got to see my two cousins Macy and Grace. We had so much fun together ...we rode trails together, explored a pretty waterfall...
...looked in a old barn together and played games together. the grass felt real good there too.
...a relaxing afternoon at Lake St. Catherine!
Who would have known this tiny town in Vermont would host one of the best fireworks shows we've ever seen. It was so much fun to spend the 4th of July celebrating with the Wilson's...meeting some of their new friends...visiting their church...and enjoying their company...Good times! | Back on the road... 1st thing in the morning...
More beautiful scenery... | More hiking... | July 2010 Cunningham Falls State Park | "The Land of Chipmunks" | Camping Maryland
