BC: The End
FC: New City Church | Appreciation for Pastor Kin Lam 2010
"The Gospel is not just the A-B-C's but the A to Z of Christianity." Tim Keller | And I, when I came to you, brothers, did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God with lofty speech or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in fear and much trembling, and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 1 Corinthians 2:1-4 | ~To our pastor who has relentlessly pointed us to Jesus, our Savior and our Lord. Thank you.
Thanksgiving Reflections Kelvin and Vivian Luk | Jonah The book of Jonah contains two of our favorite topics – exotic fish and travel. Big fish aside, the story of Nineveh especially touched us in a few ways. The unwillingness/doubt of Jonah to go to preach to an ungodly people finds parallels in our own attitude sometimes. The response of Nineveh is amazing. To imagine an entire nation repenting its ways, even dressing the horses in sack, is quite an image. As we read this story again and again though, it is God’s decision to spare them that is so stirring. During the sermon, the precise term to describe this made for an interesting study in intention. But this only adds to the love that is ingrained in God’s decision towards them.
spring | Acts 17:16-28 One of the things that strikes us about this passage is that Paul vividly describes the secular world to which he was trying to share the gospel with. In many ways, modern America (or Hong Kong, or London, or even Sante Fe, New Mexico) is very similar to ancient Greece. In fact, the world has been more like Athens than unlike in the past century. Idols abound, people are chasing their own wills and desires, and there appears to be little room for the gospel of a true God. We feel the “spiritual” hostility of our colleagues, friends, and in many cases, our closest relatives as well. These are challenging conditions and we often feel overwhelmed by it. But what makes Paul’s work so inspirational is the vigor with which he goes after Athens. There is no time for fear or pause. There is knowledge, reason, and the absolute faith of our father in heaven. These serve as an example to us (even if this bar is rather high for us). Yet, the response of the Athenians is also an encouragement as even the most atheistic nation listened. There are many people around us who are like the Greeks – clearly walking another path, but are building their idols to an unknown God.
Thank You from the Heart | Dear Kin & Kathy, Thank you so much for everything you and your family have devoted to South Philly. Without your guys, I would have never known how true the Gospel is. Neither would I have understood the meaning of the Christian life. Without Kin’s sermons every Sunday, and Bible Studies every Friday, I would never have known this truthful, gracious, and merciful God in our world. Once again, thank you so much for being the faithful servants of Our Lord Jesus Christ. Chong
"Late have I loved you, O Beauty ever ancient, ever new, late have I loved you! You were within me, but I was outside, and it was there that I searched for you. In my unloveliness I plunged into the lovely things which you created. You were with me, but I was not with you. Created things kept me from you; yet if they had not been in you they would have not been at all. You called, you shouted, and you broke through my deafness. You flashed, you shone, and you dispelled my blindness. You breathed your fragrance on me; I drew in breath and now I pant for you. I have tasted you, now I hunger and thirst for more. You touched me, and I burned for your peace." St. Augustine
From Sarah | Psalm 100:4 -- Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him, bless his name! This verse reminds me that whenever I pray I should not seek for help or pray about my worries. Instead, I should thank and praise God for His love for us; His everlasting love for us. Also, it reminds me that our life on earth is to glorify God’s name. Psalm 118:1 -- Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. This verse reminds me how true our Lord’s love for us is. He is good. All things come through Him is good. If we believe in Him, we will become His children and will be in his love and blessing forever. I thank Him for always opening His arms and welcoming us sinners in Jesus.
The love of God is greater far Than tongue or pen can ever tell; It goes beyond the highest star, And reaches to the lowest hell; The guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win; His erring child He reconciled, And pardoned from his sin When years of time shall pass away, And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall, When men, who here refuse to pray, On rocks and hills and mountains call, God’s love so sure, shall still endure, All measureless and strong; Redeeming grace to Adam’s race— The saints’ and angels’ song. Could we with ink the ocean fill, And were the skies of parchment made, Were every stalk on earth a quill, And every man a scribe by trade, To write the love of God above, Would drain the ocean dry. Nor could the scroll contain the whole, Though stretched from sky to sky. | O love of God, how rich and pure! How measureless and strong! It shall forevermore endure The saints’ and angels’ song. | The Love of God
 the flowers are blooming
"For the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers are springing up and the time of the singing of birds has come. Yes, spring is here." ~ Song of Solomon 2:11-12 | sunny days
Behold Him there the risen Lamb, My perfect spotless righteousness, The great unchangeable I AM, The King of glory and of grace, One in Himself I cannot die. My soul is purchased by His blood, My life is hid with Christ on high, With Christ my Savior and my God! | Before the throne of God above I have a strong and perfect plea. A great high Priest whose Name is Love Who ever lives and pleads for me. My name is graven on His hands, My name is written on His heart. I know that while in Heaven He stands No tongue can bid me thence depart. | When Satan tempts me to despair And tells me of the guilt within, Upward I look and see Him there Who made an end of all my sin. Because the sinless Savior died My sinful soul is counted free. For God the just is satisfied To look on Him and pardon me.
