FC: 40TH REUNION | Sweet Springs R-7 Class of 1972

1: Sweet Springs R-7 Class of 1972 40th Reunion

2: The 40th class reunion committee met several times from spring to fall in 2012 to plan activities for our classmates, the Sweet Springs R-7 class of 1972. Members were : - Chairman, Peggy Finley Ruester - Carl Colson - Loretta Summers Rennison - Debra Lange Summers - Jerry Reid - Janet Aiken Brandt We sacrificed the grueling hours of planning with Mexican food and Margaritas at the “Mi Pueblo” Mexican Restaurant on the North edge of Sweet Springs, MO. This restaurant closed after our reunion committee meetings ended and it has now re-opened and they have changed the name to ”Knotheadz”. We met for our last meeting for our photo op at “Last Chance Saloon”. Figures. | We had a great time reminiscing with each other about Sweet Springs School experiences as we planned the activities for the reunion weekend. Thanks to Tina Nienhueser Reid and Carolyn Stockman Colson for doing all the decorations and the banner for the reception. Also, an especially big thanks to Tom Reno for doing this booklet. We welcomed two of our teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mitchell (Miss Ackley), to our reunion. They enjoyed seeing their old classrooms, where they met. “It’s a shame you all couldn’t be at our meetings, they were fun! Thanks to Terry Trautman Moore for helping with the float and to members Ted Moore and Randy Bredehoeft for riding on our float with us.” --Redd | “What a great group to work with to plan and have a great weekend together! We had lots of fun visiting about the past 40 years. Hope to see you all at our next reunion! Thank you Peggy for your extra efforts for all of us.” --J R Reid “So good to see all of our classmates again. Did not seem like 40 years. I’ll help plan again any time—hopefully sooner than our 50th, but whatever it takes to get together again will be great!” --Debbie Summers “See you all in 5 years. We’re doing this again!!! We want more to come, you’ll have so much fun and won’t regret it!! We’ll meet annually at the Alumni banquet. Then, a bigger party every five years. Plan now------2017!!” --Peggy | Reunion Committee (Left to right) Janet Aiken Brandt, Peggy Finley Ruester, Loretta Summers Rennison, Debra Lange Summers, Jerry Reid, Carl Colson (not pictured)

During summers I returned to CMSU to earn a Master Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I worked here for 31 years, retiring in 2007. | During college I worked summers for Roxbury Press. Many important conversations took place during these minutes. Anyone else remember Marla Meyer getting hit by a golf club in PE or was it Marla who hit someone? The best has to be the Pep bus rides back to town after a victory (of which there were many). Loved all the singing Julie Ann, If I Had a Hammer. | The yardstick she carried in the hallways to measure skirts. Tough but fair. If only we had more like her today!

My fondest memory of her was helping and encouraging my brother, Gene. When our Dad died in August 1962, Gene wanted to drop out his Senior year to help run the farm with our Mom. Miss Meek encouraged him to attend his Senior year. She allowed him to work the fields when necessary. In 1963, he graduated with his class. I've always admired her for her support of Gene.
