Christmas Morning Breakfast Ideas

The stockings are empty, there’s wrapping paper all over the floor, and everyone is preoccupied enjoying all their new gifts from Santa. It was a great Christmas morning. What pairs best with a morning of excitement? A cozy, filling breakfast. Here are some ideas for a delicious Christmas morning breakfast.

1. Bacon Egg and Cheese Crescent Croissant

There is something special and festive about crescent rolls, wouldn't you agree?

All you need for this warm breakfast snack is pre-made refrigerated crescent roll dough. Stuff them with bacon, cheddar cheese, and scrambled eggs. The beauty of this recipe is that you can pre-make it and just throw it in the oven on Christmas morning. OR you can bake it beforehand, refrigerate it, and just reheat it, so it's nice and warm together with your morning coffee.

2. Sausage Bread

This deliciously warm and cheesy sausage bread is the perfect way to start two things - the Christmas morning AND the Christmas dinner, as a small bite-sized appetizer.

You'll only need a couple of things to prepare this dish - eggs, dough, Italian sausage, and mozzarella cheese. It's not obligatory to make your own dough, store-bought is much easier and faster during the holidays.

Bake it for 25 minutes and you're good to go. You can also diversify this recipe by adding your choice of cheese, bacon, or seasonings. Let your creativity go crazy!

3. Flamenco Eggs

This dish may be served only for lunch and dinner in Spain, but we think it's the perfect Christmas breakfast.

It's an old traditional Spanish recipe, which has had a huge number of variations over the years. The most simple version is just baked eggs with stewed tomatoes and peppers. But you can choose to add chorizo, sausage, as well as onion, garlic, and tomato sauce.

There are two ways of preparing this delicacy. Top the stewed vegetables and meats with a couple of eggs and bake them separately in clay dishes. Alternatively, you can fry the eggs and put them on top of the meats and veggies.

Buen Provecho!

What about those leftovers, though?

No matter how well you plan the Christmas Dinner menu, there will still be some food left afterward. It has already become a tradition of its own. And while the odds are you have enough to feed your family for a whole other day, here are three ideas that will help you get rid of the leftovers in the morning.

Cranberry and Cheese Toastie.

Any morning that starts with a warm and crispy cheese toastie is a good morning, Christmas or otherwise!

Use your leftover cranberry sauce to discover a whole new plain of taste. The cranberry sauce's sweetness with the parma ham's and cheddar's saltiness complement each other perfectly, and simply melt in your mouth.

The trick to getting the perfect toastie is to coat the whole thing with butter before cooking it - this will ensure a beautiful and delicious crisp!

Healthy Turkey Chili

The leftover turkey will play a crucial role in healing you in case you still feel stuffed after last night's festivities.

Not only do lean ground turkey, kidney beans, and corn combined together have a thick texture and addicting flavor, but they also come packed with protein and fiber. Just what your tummy needs after a gastronomic-heavy evening!

Adding cayenne and jalapeño peppers will make it the perfect winter warmer

Bubble and squeak

And of course, this list wouldn't be complete without the absolute King of all leftover dishes. The emperor of food recycling.

Ladies and Gentleman - Bubble and Squeak!

Usually, it goes like this - cooked potatoes, finely chopped onion, pretty much any veggies, leftover meat, and some rashers of bacon. Add a teaspoon of butter or oil, throw it on the skillet, and slow fry for 15 minutes or until everything turns golden. Have some leftover cheese? Even better! Sprinkle it on top and season the dish to your taste.

It's simple, cost-efficient, and quick. Perfect for the morning after food-coma you had last night!
