4: Chapter 1 | Dear Husband, As the war moves on the nurses and I are organizing support groups. One of the support groups is we sew blankets, tents, torn clothing. I also help raise money for medical supplies. In my off time I teach the African American soldiers how to read and write. Us nurses get to take care of the sick and injured soldiers on the front line, and keeping the rest of the Union soldiers healthy and safe. Some of the other women lost their sons, brothers, husbands, and grandpas. We have all suffered the loss of our loved ones. Sincerely your wife, Mary Anderson

6: Chapter 2 | Dear Wife, As a Union soldier we have better weapons and clothing. Are Union uniforms and dark blue and made the of thick wool. Many of Union soldiers are dieing of ptomaine poison. Many of soldiers and very young in their early 20's. Allot of the richer soldiers are paying a fee of $300 to be free from fighting in the war. Us as the North we have large and more efficient railroads for weapons and supplies than the South. Sincerely you husband, Bill Taylor

8: Chapter 3 | Dear Sister, Today I got an Enfield rifle from a dead Union soldier. My uniform is a woolen hat and a gray ragged uniform that came from a follow Confederate soldier that had died on the front line in the war. I fight on the front line with the Choctaw Indians in Oklahoma. President Jefferson Davis over saw the Confederate army. Down in the south the support for war and slavery is very strong. Allot of the Confederate soldiers had allot of strong tradition of military training and service. Sincerely your brother, Cleetus Brown

10: Chapter 4 | Dear Mom, In the North people strongly encouraged African Americans to sign up for the Union army. Today I'm singing up as a drummer boy on the front line of the Union army. If I cant become a drummer boy I will probably become a cook for the Union. I heard that the fifty-fourth regiment is made up of all African American soldiers. I also heard that dad is fighting for the Confederacy. To the soldiers in the Union I'm known as contraband. Sincerely your son, Frank Wade
