1: Isolationism Isolationism is the policy of avoiding foreign alliances with other countries. This gave them the right to make alliances with who ever they wanted to.

2: Neutrality Neutrality is the policy of not choosing sides in a war. meaning the government did not have to choose a side.

3: Sinking of the Lusitania 1200 people dies 128 were Americans, the boat was allied. German submarines sunk the Lusitania because they thought it was carrying supplies to their enemy, this is one of the things that prompted America to get into the war.

4: Zimmerman Note A telegram from the German Ambassador to Mexico asking them to join Germany and to fight against America and to join the central powers.

5: Selective Service Act of 1917 A law passed in 1917 that required men between of 21 and 30 to register for the military, otherwise known as the draft.
