FC: Caddie Woodlawn | By: Carol Ryrie Brink Report By: Sarah Potter

Caddie Woodlawn is a spunky 10 year old girl, who is very adventurous. Her long red hair is really pretty. She does not behave like most girls her age, Caddie is a...TOM BOY!! But as the story goes Caddie learns that sewing, and cooking aren't that bad. She starts to take on more household or girly jobs.

If i was in the story it would definatly change. My character would probably be like Caddie. I would have been an Indian girl from the tribe who likes to play with her. We would go on many adventures together. I would teach her about my culture and she would teach me about hers. I would have a husky named Shara, and our dogs would play together.

Caddie Woodlawn is a story about a girl named Caddie. She lives with her pioneer family, Mom, Dad, three sisters, and two brothers. This girls family lives on the prarie. On the farm, her father wanted to raise her like a boy wondering what would happen and what it would be like. Grudgingly, Mrs. Woodlawn finally gave in, letting her husband raise her third daughter like a boy. No sewing or cooking for this little girl, She spent her time in the fields with her brothers learning how to plow and hunt.

In this tale, Caddie is friends with an Indian tribe that lives just on the other side of the river. Indian John, who spoke the most English out of his tribe, was very kind to Caddie and her brothers. Caddie and the boys would visit a lot.One adventure Caddie encounters is one night during a peaceful dinner the Wood lawns heard a knock at the door. When Mr. Woodlawn answered the door, a man spoke rather hurridly, eplaining that there was going to be a Masacurie. Mr. Woodlawn didn't belive it but others did, the next day people were gathering at the Woodlawn house hold just in case they attacked. | After two days of waiting, everyone was growing tired. Caddie went to fetch some eggs from the celer when she heard two men talking. They were talking about attacking the Indians before they supposedly attack them. | Being friends with the Indians, Caddie rode on her horse to warn them. When she reached the tribe she went on explianing the attack. Indian John decided to go to the Woodlawns, and work it out. When he talked to Mr. Woodlawn they decided to never attack eachother, and then shook hands peacefully.

This is the type of place the Woodlawn's would live in. The Woodlawns lived in Wisconsin. Their cabin was a cute little house on the prarie. They had a farm there that was probably three or four acers. Right beside there house, they had a barn, filled with horses , and hay. The one horse that Caddie love to ride was, Betsy, A beautiful Dark Brown horse.

Caddie enjoys many things, like ice skating. Once she and her brother went ice skating on thin ice. Caddie being careless fell through the ice. she had a cold for two months after that.

None of the family really wanted to send him away. After some persuading by Caddies uncle, Mrs. Woodlawn said Fine. When Caddie heard the news she went up and cried for 24 hours straight. Days later after many goodbyes the Woodlawns watched their beloved dog going away with their uncle. Caddie wasn't sure if Nero knew where he was going. Weeks later, they recived a letter from their uncle saying that Nero was lost. :( Moarning and doping filled the house for several days after the letter. Don't worry though he comes back at the end.= | Another adventure that Caddie has in her life is her dog Nero. CAddie loved him with all her heart. Nero is a shaggy white and black haired sheep dog. Caddie's uncle, a prankster decided that he wanted to take Nero to a special dog school in the city.

When they visited the Indians, they had to cross a river. On the other side of the river there was a huge Indian tribe. Filled with children, animals and adults.

Caddie is a very nice person. Her uncle had given her one gold coin. Which was alot in those days. Once at school she saw Indian John's kids sitting alone looking sad. Caddie, feeling bad for them took them to town. | When they reached town, Caddie took them to a shop. At that shop there were a lot of things including candy, books and plenty of other items. Caddie let them each choose a lot of candy, she also bought them some other nice new things like handkerchief and necessary items. As she watched the excited Indian children leave, she smiled to herself and felt very happy.

One time Caddie and her brothers were picking berries. They were having a cool conversation. When there buckets were almost full, Caddie was going to leave she saw a rattle snake!!! Screaming the ran, just in time!! they went and told their mom all about it.
