1: There are 20 workers employed on a highway project, some earn $200 per day and some earn $175 per day. The daily payrole is $3,850. Write and solve a linear system to find the number of workers employed at each wage.

2: Step 1: Use X to represent workers getting $200 and Y to represent the workers getting $175. 200x+175y=3850 x amount of workers plus y amount of workers equals 20 workers. Getting x alone looks like this.. x=-y+20 Replace x with -y+20 Your new equation will look like this...

3: Simplify. 200(-y+20)+175y=3850 -200y+4000+175y=3850 -25y=-150 y=6

4: Now substite y=6 for the equation, x=-y+20 The new equation should look like x=-6+20 Solve. x=14

5: Therefore, there are 14 workers earning $200 per day, and 6 workers earning $175 per day.
