Disneyworld | Elisabeth was working here, so during Spring Break Kelli, David, Noreen, and Carl went to Orlando and spent three wonderful days exploring all the parks!

Our first cruise! From Orlando, we sailed to the Bahamas with Noreen and Carl,on a three-day Royal Caribbean cruise. It was a wonderful, relaxing time!

Yosemite National Park 4th of July camping with the McCoys, Turners, and Royals

 Tuolomne Meadows

Vernal Falls: David and Kevin did this hike up the Mist Trail to the falls, and it was beautiful! We had a record level of rainfall during the previous winter and spring, so the volume of water going over the falls in the summer of 2011 was much higher than usual, making for stunning views throughout the park.

Alaska! Our biggest summer adventure in 2011 was our amazing two-week vacation to Alaska. We went to visit the Evoys on the Kenai Peninsula, then joined up with Harold, Linda, Barbara and Debby for a cruise tour including some of Alaska's interior as well as its breathtaking coast!

We had a fantastic time with Maya, Jason, Brady, Connor, and Kelty Evoy... and ate lots of fresh salmon!

Riding the Alaska Railroad from Anchorage to Fairbanks

We really enjoyed riding on the train, eating in the dining car, and seeing the incredible views, which included lots of momma moose with babies and a few bald eagles!

Fairbanks: We loved the river cruise, and the highlight was getting to meet Susan Butcher's sled dog team and learning more about the Iditarod!

Sled dogs from the team of Susan Butcher's family, including their lead dog.

 Linda's 50th state!

After the river cruise, we got to hear Iditarod champion Lance Mackey tell his inspirational story.

Next we went to the beautiful Princess Wilderness Lodge at Denali National Park, where we stayed for two nights.

Harold and David golfing on the tundra outside Denali National Park

 Denali National Park

We took the National Park Service bus to the Eielson Visitor Center. It was about 8 hours round-trip, but we loved it! We saw lots of amazing animals along the way, including a young grizzly digging up shrubs right next to the bus! We were lucky that we got to see Denali/ Mt. McKinley, since it's often fully obscured by clouds.

Caribou | Wolves | Dall Sheep | Fox | Grizzly Bear | Lynx

 Denali National Park

Eating dinner on the train ride from Denali to Anchorage | The bus from Anchorage to Whittier took us to the cruise ship... and past this amazing scenery on the Turnagain Arm!

hanging out on our ship: The Diamond Princess

 Formal nights

The Hubbard Glacier | Shrouded in fog and surrounded by chunks of ice that had broken off from the large glacier that rose straight out of the water and towered above us... we felt like we had sailed to the end of the world!

We sailed through Glacier Bay National Park, saw lots of beautiful glaciers, and watched dozens of humpback whales spouting and breaching! | We also saw these animals in Alaska: moose grizzly bears wolves caribou dall sheep trumpeter swans ptarmigans red foxes bald eagles a lynx snowshoes hares owls arctic squirrels dolphins seals salmon black bear sea and river otters orcas

Skagway This old gold rush town is nestled between the water and the mountains along the border between Alaska and Canada. We took the old yellow streetcar tour to learn about the town's history.

Juneau We visited the Glacier Gardens and Tongass National Rainforest. Then we went to the Mendenhall Glacier (opposite page), where a young black bear ran right past David-- just about a foot away from him! We also wandered around town and visited the Alaska State Museum.

Ketchikan We wandered around, went to the Totem Heritage Center museum, and saw the lumberjack show. A great end to our wonderful cruise!

 What an incredible summer!
