The first time I met Amanda she was going to be a seventh grader the upcoming school year. She came to me with another teammate and stated I’m going to be one of your basketball players next year. I asked her if she knew how to work hard. She stated, “Yes”. I said, No I really mean work hard”. She paused for a second and said, “Yes”. Little did I know!! By far one of the hardest working individuals I have ever coached. She was a run through the wall player, as were her teammates. Words cannot express the joy it was to coach her. She developed herself into one of the best female basketball players in the state of Missouri. Her work habits have obviously carried over to her coaching. I have always enjoyed watching her players play. What a wonderful person she has grown to be, a great coach but even a better human being. I can say that my life was truly blessed having been allowed to coach her. No more Pepsi and cupcakes Ritter!! -Todd Porter | I have no idea what to say in this letter. It’s hard to think that there will be a new coach next year. We’ve butted heads a couple times and you’ve pushed me pretty hard, but I know that you were trying to make me be the better player I could be. My junior year will always be one of my most memorable years. You’ve understood the difficult things I had to work through and through the years you truly understood how I needed coached. I appreciate all the time and effort you put into all of us. Not only is it my last year with you as a coach, it’s my last year with you as a math teacher. I’ll be coming for your help though. You can count on that. Thank You for all your years and long hours you put into us. Love Always, Alicia Bland #25

When I was a freshman you had us set goals, one as a team the other as an individual. My team goal was that we work to put a banner on the wall!! Success!! And as an individual to work as hard as I could even if I felt like dying. Well I didn't die and I feel pretty accomplished. I definitely couldn't have done it without you. You pushed me when others gave up on me, you chewed me out when I needed it and even hugged me when I didn't want it. Even though we are done with basketball you will always be my Coach. I’ll even let you yell at me if you want to, but no running. Because we all know how much I love that! You and Wade are the most supportive Coach/ Ass. Coach I could ever ask for. Seriously who in their right mind would buy some mouthy, hard headed, scrawny person a giraffe? Anyways, no one went to jail or killed anybody. So, not too bad if you ask me. Thanks for putting up with me through all these years. I’d do it all again in a heartbeat! -Buttercup #12 | Amanda is one of those students I will never forget and not because she was a great ball player. What makes her memorable was her character traits that made her a great player. Traits like hard work, self-motivation, dedication, persistence, and confidence made her successful as a player and a math student. I often use her as an example to the students I have today when it comes to motivation and being great at something instead of just good at it. Another thing I admired about Amanda was how she put the team first. She could have averaged more points per game but this was not her priority. She knew that she would win us more games by shutting down the opponents stud player and spreading the ball around to her team. In closing it has been a pleasure being her teacher, coach, and friend. 16: First off, I would like to thank you for the honor of being your assistant coach in this year’s whirlwind of a season. Although you were only my coach for a short period of time, I always knew you were an awesome coach. I’ve always appreciated how you’ve opened you’re practices up to me and allowed me to get my basketball “fix”. And then as if just being able to practice with the team wasn’t enough, you gave me the chance to coach alongside you, which is an experience I will NEVER forget. Being by your side this season has definitely opened my eyes and taught me a lot about what it means to be a coach. Plus I even tapped into my “mean” side thanks to you. I pray that your “retired” life brings you as much joy as being a part of the game did. Thank you for everything! Abbi p.s. It’s an honor to have my name next to yours on that banner. | Dear Coach Thank you so much for coaching me these past two years. I really appreciate everything you have done for me on and off the court. You have pushed me to be the ball player I am today. I’m going to miss you and your “Shut and Run” t-shirt. I’m not going to lie; I’m not going to miss all the running that I could definitely go without. I am really glad that I am able to say that you have coached me. You have pushed me and made me better than I could have ever imagined. This is why you deserve Coach of the Year. I will miss you and you will always be a huge part of my life. Love, Samantha #34

Hi. :) I've had a great two years with you, even though my freaking bum knee kept me out all of my freshman year and part of my sophomore year. I don't know what ball season will be like since you're not going to be yelling at me from the sideline anymore. Thats dumb. Anyways, it's okay though because you will still get to see my booty everyday at school. ;) i don't know if I'm aloud to say ass in this letter, so I had to put the word booty in it. Ball isn't going to be the same anymore. Thanks for making my year an awesome one. I couldn't imagine winning that banner with any other team. I love you, Mathes! Love, Kaycee <3 | Well just so you know this is Princess! :) I've had an amazing three years with you. I can't believe that I start off my basketball career and a small timid Freshman and now I am a starter on a District Champion team. I'm so happy we went as far as we did with this being your last year and you where right that feeling is a feeling that I can't even put into words. You just HAD to have your name on the wall one last time, didn't you. ;) I'm sad that you be my ball coach next year but don't you worry, I'm still going to come to you for all my basketball needs! :) Hope you don't mind! Thank you for everything, Love Princess <3

Oh where do I start!! We have been through soo much together!! This was my first year with you and it has been one of the best years ever!! I am really glad I got to have you your last year. It was a lot of fun and I have learned so much from you. You have taught me to keep my head up and give 100% and to never give up!!!! It's really sad to see you go, you have been such an amazing coach to our team and I am glad we made it to districts this year with you. I am going to miss fooling around with you every night after ball practice if you know what I mean. You have made such an impact on the team and we will never forget all the great memories and defiantly what a great coach you were!!!!! I will defiantly miss you and will remember everything you taught me. I hope to see you at the rest of our games!! Since we don't have ball anymore together that means I won't be able to see my son as often so make sure that, that lazy old "BABYSITTER" of ours takes proper care of him! You do know that I don't trust him!! And I have finally found out why you hired him, because you're doing the dirty with him!! I am truly heartbroken, we were in LOVE!!! But since I love you I am going to give you another chance!! DON'T BLOW IT! And tell that lazy old sitter that I got my EYES on him he ain't getting past me this time!! i got cameras up and I am in stealth mode!! Love whole heartedly, Your man/Jess | Dear Coach, I Love you and I will miss you bunches! You will all ways be my favorite coach (but don't tell Mr. and Mrs. Harlow that!!) :) Well I will miss your stomping shoes and all the yelling you do, but I know you will still be there and cheering us on! Well everyone is going to tell you all this but I mean everything I say like I'll never forget you because you was and probably will still be there for us and there is also a banner on the wall and section of the net to remind us what we accomplished! Well I love how i had a 69% on my free throws. That's not too bad it would have been better if I actually got to shot free throws. But i had a great season with you also when we went to summer licking league when I was too young to really play with the high school but I loved that you let me play with your team when I wasn't really old enough! Well we have great memories together! I'm glad you are still going to be our math teacher because I just love the way you teach and I just don't want you to leave! ;) Well I love you!!! And wish you could stay about 3 more years because you're a great coach! Love, Lacey Bowen

Dear Coach, I'm writing this letter to tell you how wonderful you are. we've been through so much this year. It was my first year playing high school ball and you being my Coach. I couldn't ask for a better way to start out my year. I was really nervous because i heard how much you LOVE to run, how mean you can get ;), and also your "Stomping Shoes". Then I found out that it really wasn't that bad. You've also taught me a lot of things. You taught me to never give up. Never ever give up. Always give 110%. Always push to do your best. there's one thing I will never forget though. I can't remember which game it was but you were pissed off. We came into the locker room and you shortly came in after. As soon as you walked in all I could see was your bottle of Green Tea coming for my face. Luckily it hit me in my shin. Anyway... At the beginning of the year we made a promise that we would put a banner on that wall. Well WE DID IT. We couldn't have done it without you. Without you none of tis could be possible. I'm going to miss Licking League and all the summer stuff that we did together. I don't think it's going to be the same without you. I just wanted to let you know that you have put a big impact on my life. Pushing me to do my best and never give up on me. I definitely won't forget what you taught me. Ci love you lots. Thank you so much for this incredible year. Love #24, Jacey Lynn <3 | I’m so glad you’ve been my coach for the last two years. You helped me transform from the timid freshman to the mean sophomore I am today. You also led myself and the team to a District Championship two years in a row and this year we finally won. I know you said it felt amazing to win districts and get your name on a banner, but the feeling was unlike anything I could’ve imagined. I’ll remember that night for the rest of my life. Thank you so much! <3 Britney Mathis #40

Amanda, I don’t even know where to start. You have had us on this wonderful journey all of your life. Your basketball career started in the 5th grade and has continued until almost 20 years later. I cried with you in elementary basketball when other girls wouldn’t pass you the ball and I remember that you stuck it out and never quit. I watched as you grew in Junior High and your confidence built as a player and a young girl. You started out being built solid (Ha!) and between Coach, braces and a little height you were starting to grow from my beautiful little girl into a beautiful young woman. I was so proud of you in High School when you were confident and unsure at the same time but you knew that you had been given a special talent and you worked so hard in developing it. I will always treasure that time in our lives. It was so many things wrapped in one glorious journey, practice morning and night, laundry, camps, supper, buses to catch, games to play, keeping your GPA over a 4.0. How you managed I will never know. I know that you grew in character and integrity and wisdom that are still with you today. I was excited that you continued your basketball career in College. We tried to attend all of those games also and we were so excited that you played 6 minutes!! What a culture change for us. Then you continued to thrill us with being a Girls Basketball Coach. You simply amazed me!! Not that you were going to be a great Coach, because you were but with all the wisdom and the way you taught them and all the energy you put into it. I wouldn’t have expected anything less from you. What another exciting time for Bunker Girls Basketball!! I have to say I have mixed feelings about it all coming to an end but I know that you are doing what is best for you and your family. God will continue to bless you and use you in all that you do. You have touched so many lives and I know you will continue to touch lives of your students and your boys. We love you and are so very proud of you. I can’t wait till Kaiden puts us on another exciting journey!! Love, Mom and Dad

Amanda, Just wanted to congratulate you on all your success. To see you start out as that little 5th grader playing your first game, to and undefeated 8th grade year, 3 district championships and 2 trips to the quarter finals, then off to college were you also enjoyed success. You have always proven that hard work and desire does have its just reward. As your parents and as basketball fans we will always cherish those moments. It is our privilege to be your parents and to see what you have accomplished on and off the court. God has truly blessed for putting him first in your life. The Godly family you have, the passion and desire that you have to be a Godly mother, daughter and a mentor and role model to so many young people. The success that you have enjoyed as a coach is a reflection of you truly are. We love you with all our hearts and we are proud that you are our daughter. May God always bless and keep his hand on you. Love Dad & Linda
