5: - August 1, 1981 based in New York City. - Affected the youth due to problems with censorship and social activism. - Started making music fun and viewers started visualizing what the artist meant in their music. - Influenced language, clothing, and hobbies. | "I want my MTV"


7: OJ SIMPSON | trial of the century | ....."if the glove fits" - Los Angeles County, CA Superior Court. - Most publicized criminal trial in American history (televised). - It gave millions of people an interest, a sense of participation, and a feeling of being on the inside of a national drama. - Found not guilty of killing his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. - Sentenced to 9-33 years in prison and possibly life sentence.

9: - On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama became the 44th President of the United States and the first African American President. - Closed Guantanamo Bay within 100 days of being elected. - He made policy decisions that have addressed a global financial crisis, and have also included changes in tax policies, and legislation to reform the United States health care industry. - President Obama is still president until next year. - Barack Obama is also a democrat. | Obama

10: Columbine High School Massacre | April 20, 1999

11: Columbine High School Tragedy | - Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris enacted an all-out assault on their high school intending to kill everyone. - With guns, knives, and many bombs, the 2 students walked into school and began their massacre. - When the day was done, 12 students, 1 teacher, and the 2 murderers were found dead. - Around 21 more victims were injured or wounded. - To this very day, it is unknown why the boys planned on attempting to kill their piers.

13: TERRORIST ATTACK | September 11, 2001 | - Shift in attitude. (People realized that there's more to life than money.) - 19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group Al-Qaeda hijacked four passenger jets. - The 2 towers collapsed within 2 hours after being hit. - The US response to the attacks were to launch the War on Terror and invade Afghanistan. - The terrorists group's leader Osama bin Laden, who originally denied involvement, claimed responsibility for the attacks later on, and was later killed by members of the Seal Team 6 in 2011. - The tragedy brought American citizens together and the patriotic attitude became very evident. - Religion became very popular again because people who had lost loved ones or who were effected could turn to something for comfort. - One of the biggest effects the tragedy is the amp up of security and a national scare. - In memory, there are memorials in the place where the towers fell.


17: - In 1989 political changes happened in the Eastern Bloc in Eastern Germany. - On November 9, 1989 the German government announced that all GDR citizens could visit West Germany and Berlin. - Crowds of people climbed over the wall from both Western and Eastern Germany and joined each other again for the first time since 1961. - Over a couple of weeks the people of both sides of Germany began tearing down the wall. - The fall of the Berlin Wall made reunification of Germany possible and was completed on October 3, 1990. - The fall of the wall not only reunified Germany, but set off an explosion of world news. - The fall of the wall also marked the end of Communism in Germany.

19: -AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome or also known as Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). - AIDS was discovered in 1981. - It has caused more than 31 million deaths in the world. -Unfortunately it has no cure or vaccine, and is considered a pandemic in some parts of the world. -In 2009 the World Health Organization estimated that theres 33.4 million people in the world living with AIDS.
