1: This book is dedicated to the memory of a very beautiful woman, Lillie Jaster Tanner - my grandmother - my MawMaw. The pages that follow capture images from the spiral notebook in which she pasted verses and devotionals that were meaningful to her. One of the memories I have of MawMaw is the visual image of her Bible that was always open on an end table or her little stool - and beside it was always her daily devotional reading and her little red pencil. I was young and foolish then and I didn't appreciate or understand the love she had for Jesus. I am so ashamed to admit that sometimes I even got tired of her talking so openly about Jesus, as if He were right there with us. Now I understand. What I would give to be able to talk to her about Him right now. Jesus was there with us then; and He is with us now. When someone we love so very much passes away it can be so heartbreaking but when you know without a doubt that that person is standing in the presence of the God they loved so much, you have to rejoice for them. On November 15, 2007 MawMaw drew her last breath and was instantly in the presence of God. This beautiful woman who lived a life characterized by humility and frugality, and who knew both love and the deepest sadness a mother could ever know received her reward and, I know, was greeted with those beautiful words "well done, my good and faithful servant". So even though I miss her so much right now, I know that someday I will walk the streets of gold with her and I rejoice in that knowledge. As you read these pages, read them as if she is talking to you and telling you what she believed was eternally important. She would have no greater joy than to know that this very simple book that she left behind helped draw you closer to God. Love, Allison March 2012
