S: HAPPY 70th BIRTHDAY!
BC: The End
FC: Another year has past...
1: Happy Birthday! | After all these years, you have done so much for this family. We are truly blessed to have such a wonderful person in our life. Enjoy this book of memories, in honor of our gratitude to you.
2: Life brings simple pleasures to us every day. It is up to us to make them wonderful memories. CathyAllen
3: I remember when Diane fist came to Bass... Her striking good looks made her the most chased after. I remember when Bryson and one other member of the football team were dying for her attention... of course Bryson was the eventual winner. It was an interesting competition to watch. I would have thrown my hat in the ring but knew I had not a prayer. Diane was so lovely a young lass. -Gordon Eastling
4: I have really gotten to know Diane again over the past 5 years as we planned our 50th high school reunion and have gotten in touch with classmates we hadn't seen for 50 years. She is a wonderful Christian example showing Christ's love in all that she does. We have shared phone calls, FB messages, family photos and spent time together with our Bass friends. I admire her ability to be forth right in her views without making anyone be uncomfortable. She's quite a diplomat! -Roberta McHugh
9: I went to Bass High School with Diane in the 9th-12th grades. What I remember during those years isn't a lot but when I think of her, I think of a petite, peppy girl with an enormous football jacket... | It swallowed her but she wore it proudly. -Roberta McHugh
13: Home is where the heart is...
18: Diane is the very embodiment of the song from 1958: "I Enjoy Being A Girl". She is always perfect from her head right down to her toes....perfect hair, clothes, makeup.....and ALWAYS high heels! All that, and southern charm as well! Happy birthday, Diane! -Joan Drake
19: How old are you turning... 35? | HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WE LOVE YOU!!
20: To my dear, sweet, child bride. I love you very much. I love your radiance, grace, beauty...and home making abilities (haha) Thank you for being patient with a husband who has no patience-I have enjoyed every moment of our time together. It has been an honor to be your husband The other day, Pam asked me how I “got you,” and I told her I couldn’t tell, because I can’t do that anymore haha. I hope your 39th birthday is the best ever! I love very very much! Love, George
21: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Corinthians 13:4
24: We love you! -Gina, Pam & Cheryl
25: A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path
30: You turn 70 years old today. Despite many wonderful days and some difficult days during the past 70 years, you are the most faithful, pretty, smart, helpful, compassionate, generous person I will ever know. I always take every opportunity to speak of you to others. I rarely remember you being anything but inspiring and encouraging. | I always heard you say "my 3 girls are the most important thing in my life". As a single mom you were always the mom our friends loved most.... yes the boys too (Haha). You have always been there for all three of us during the best times and during the worst times in our lives. We appreciate your unconditional love, even when we knew we were so wrong and the advice given in love even as adults. All of these things are honorable and important. People would think "what a great mother". Others think you are so pretty inside and out (which you are!) and mention how much you have given us throughout the years (which you have). However, they don't know the half of it. The best part of you is that you are still the mommy I wrote love letters to in first grade, the mom who was so special that I wanted to be sick and come home from school. I love you with all of my heart! | Happy 70th birthday to the most lovely 70 year old ever! I love you! Eeeeeeee Amela Pam
31: Mama. I love you. You have been a good mother to me. You fed me healthy food like vegetables and hicken bones which made me have a healthy, strong body from the start. I remember smelling your fried chicken and being so happy waiting to eat it. I remember loving your squash and onions too. We used to fight over that! I had a good childhood. You always made summer fun with watermelon and homemade icecream. Cleaning the pool was always exciting waiting for it to fill up. I can still smell that smell. You put sunscreen on me and I hated that white stuff on my nose. But I know you were just trying to protect us! | You always gave huge birthday parties and let us have all of our friends over. You made and still make all holidays special with you decorations. You have a talent for decorating! I remember being in the mall and you would always let us get something from the candy department at Sear or Richs. I remember the nuts under the lights. I remember when I had the mumps you took me to the mall; you still let me get candy even though it hurt my jaw to chew it. You would always do special things with each one of us, like check us out and take us to Rich's Tea Room for lunch. I remember buying us buying you that lion picture with black velvet and bright color felt. Even though you didn't really like it , you still hung it on the den wall. You always bought us all awesome clothes. I am forever grateful for your love and sacrifices for all of us. Yes, I rememer alot about food.... can't help it, I love to eat! Remeber when you used to buy me oranges, I would eat the whole bag! I also remember when you had a date. You would buy me frozen develed crab, and I still love those too. Thank you for making life for me so good. I have always been proud of my pretty mama. I think you could be on the news because you look so good for 70. Cheryl said no we couldn't call Monica Kaufman though. I understand you better now. Happy Birthday Mama. I hope you have a special birthday; you are a special Mama. Love, Gina
32: Dear Mama, It’s hard to put into words what you mean to me. You are the most amazing woman I know. Ever since I can remember, you have done everything you can to make everyone you love happy. Because of you, I have so many wonderful memories from my childhood. I loved my birthdays! You woke us up with breakfast in bed and you threw the best birthday parties ever! We had the best times traveling to my twirling competitions, with our usual stops by the Waffle House. You made me eat my spinach so my muscles would grow like Popeye’s! (No matter how much I hated it!) I loved when you tucked me in at night and listened to me say my prayers. You always took us to Six Flags and watched us have fun, even though you didn’t ride anything. I loved our shrimp cocktail dinners at Red Lobster. I still love our special days at the mall and having lunch together. But most of all, I just remember you loving me no matter what!! | You are a beautiful person, inside and out! You are the most dedicated and loving mother and grandmother anyone could ever ask for. I hope you know how much I admire you and appreciate you! Happy Birthday! Love, Cheryl
42: Grandmama, My favorite memories of you are when I was young. I remember you rocking me in the rocking chair singing, “All the horsies and the ponies belong to this little baby. When you awake, you’ll get a piece of cake” I learned how to give butterfly kisses from my Grandmama. I also remember you taking the three girls (Kristi, Erin and Me) to the movie theatre to see movies. You would always bring a shopping bag full of Coke’s and cups so you didn’t have to purchase them from the concession stand. You know how to save a buck or two! The most recent and funny memory of you, was Christmas in 2009. You wrote “Ma Salad” on your cup, instead of “Ma Sally” as Bradley calls you. Haha Thank you, Grandmama, for always being present in my life. I am thankful to have such a wonderful Grandmother as you. You do so much for your family. Your love is abundant. I love you so much! Happy 70th Birthday! Cheers to health and happiness for years to come! I can’t wait for you to dance at my wedding with bells on (doing none other than the twist of course). Love, Amanda EEEEEEEEEeeee
43: I will never forget the time that you, me, Amanda and mom all went to NYC. Every time we got in a taxi, you somehow managed to make friends with the taxi driver (you have always been a talker haha). I also remember that trip was the first (and only) time I have seen you angry. We were about to take a tour to see the statue of liberty... You wanted to take the ferry but me and Amanda wanted to take the “shark ride, speed boat tour”....“ I WILL NOT GET ON THAT BOAT AND MESS UP MY HAIR,” you told us. hahaha You’re definitely not the typical grandmother! You have always taught us to appreciate life and be thankful for what you have. You are a beautiful person, inside and out and I hope I can grow into the amazing woman that you are :)Thank you so much for everything you do. I hope you have a wonderful birthday! I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH! -Kristi Lee | Grandmama: Where do I begin? You have always been an amazing grandmother and mother to this family. You have single-handedly held this family together. If it weren’t for you, I do not think any of us would have the strong bonds that we do. I am truly blessed to have you in my life. You have not only been there anytime we have needed you, but you have also shared some of the most fun and exciting moments with us.
44: Dear Grandmama, Although sometimes we all drive eachother crazy, you are the glue that hold this family together. I don't know what we would do without you. You one of the strongest women I know and I look up to you highly for that. With all the struggles and loss you have had in your life, you have always been up beat and happy as far back as I can remember. My favorite memory of you growing up was going to the movies with you, Amanda, and Kristi. One day you asked us what we wanted to take to the movie. Kristi said she wanted some Hot Tamales (cinnamon flavored candy) and you responded, " Kristi, We are NOT going to a Mexican restaurant to get a burrito, we are going to a movie!" The three of us just busted out laughing, "Grandmama, hot tamales are candy!" You do so much for all your family and you are so loving. I only hope to be as good of a mother and grandmother as you. I am so happy to have a grandmother as beautiful, smart, and kind as you are. I will always hold fond memories of you close to my heart. With so MUCH love, Erin
45: Dear Grandmama, Happy 70th Birthday! Sorry, I know you want it to be a secret, but I don't think that anyone would believe that you are 70 anyways! You're the coolest grandmama ever! I don't think I know anyone who could say that their grandma is their favorite person to shop with and their number one fan on Facebook! I love spending time with you, and I love that I get to see you almost every day. You have always come to watch me play sports and are the first to congratulate me on anything I do. We have so many memories together that I don't think I could pick just one. All I can remember is always laughing and having a good time when I'm with you! I remember when Bryson and I used to spend the night at your house, and we had so much fun. You always played "this little piggy" with us and we would just laugh and laugh! I also remember you used to do my nails for me, and then Bryson would get jealous so you would also paint his nails clear. haha. Also, every time we spend the night with you, you make sure everything is about us! You buy all of our favorite foods, even if we're only staying for one night, and you always make us a big breakfast. I also love that you will never ever leave without giving me a hug! Grandmama, I love you sooo much! I hope you have the best birthday ever! :) Love, Melissa

50: Dear Grandmama, You have been a very loving grandmother to me. I will never forget all the dinners we ate at Olive Garden on my birthdays!! You have been a huge inspiration to me and the whole family. I hope you have a wonderful 70th birthday. I love you! -Zach
51: Dear Grandmama, You are the greatest grandmother a grandson could ask for. We have lots of fun memory's together, and the best one was when I threw-up in your new car. I hope you are going to be around a lot longer so we can make more re-memorable memories. So HAPPY-BIRTHDAY Grandmama, stay healthy always! Love, your grandson Chaz.
52: Dear Grandmama, Happy Birthday! It’s hard to believe you’re turning 70 when you still look like a teenager. I remember when I used to spend the night with you and I loved it. I always slept in your bed with you because I wanted to be with my Grandmama. Every time I woke up at your house there was the smell of a delicious breakfast you were making for me and it was amazing. I’ll never forget those awesome times at your house. I can’t wait to come over again! I love you so much Grandmama and hope you have the best birthday ever! Love, Bryson
58: All things grow better with love.
61: Pam, Carey, Kristi & Zach
65: Dear Diane, Happy 70th birthday. Its hard to believe that 34 years ago I moved next door to you, Pam, Gina and Cheryl. It was a very fortunate move for me. I was able to meet my future wife and be part of her amazing family. I will always remember how nice you were to me and how open you were to welcoming me into your family. You are a kind and loving mother and grandmother and I appreciate that. I hope your birthday is filled with love and happiness! Love, Carey
67: Gina, Amanda, Erin, Chaz & Bradley
73: Cheryl, Pat, Melissa & Bryson
76: Dear Diane, I hope you have a wonderful birthday. Cheryl told me that everyone was working on putting together a scrapbook dedicated to you for your 70th birthday. What a great testament it must be to have your family and friends express how much you have touched their lives and to have a permanent record of their kind words included in this book. I was lucky enough to meet your daughter Cheryl in high school. I remember telling my father about Cheryl and you back when I first began dating her. He remembered you and Bryson from high school and told me that Cheryl was the best girl I would ever date and that she came from a wonderful family. He made it very clear that I had better treat her right. I hope that I have lived up to his advice. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me and I thank you for allowing her to first of all, date me, and secondly marry me with your blessing. You did a great job raising a family as a single mother in a time when that was much more difficult. You have always been there for us whenever we have needed anything. You always make time for Bryson and Melissa and they love you very much. It is so unusual for children to be so close to their grandmother, but all of your grandchildren and your great-grandchild love the attention and the affection you show them. I truly hope that you enjoy reading all of the lovely letters your family wrote to you. There is no measure to the love we all have for you! Enjoy your birthday!!! Love, Pat
