Hi my name is Henry and this is my journal. I am 35 years old and I am in the third Estate of France. Today I was lucky and found a good amount of food as I walked through an alley. Bread, water, wine and cheese just thrown out by nobles. Henry. Digital image. Http://ebooks.abc-clio.com/print.aspx?isbn=9781851099757&id=A1730C-4480. N.p., n.d. Web
The Meeting of the Estates. Digital image. Http://bastille-day.com/history/Estates-General-1789. N.p., n.d. Web.. As I was walking out of the Alley with a slightly full belly, I noticed that King Louis was having a meeting of all three Estates called the Estate General. I decided to attend. I soon found the meeting was a big waste of my time. Basically, a fat King just sat back having no control!! A loud argument broke out between the Third Estate and the stuck up pricks of the First and Second Estates. It is simple really. We Third Estate people want our rights!
A couple of days have passed and we the Third Estate finally decided to put our foot down. We broke into a Royal tennis court and wrote what we called the Tennis Court Oath, which stated we would not leave until the King met our demands. The only demand we listed was that the Third Estate should be given the right to be in the National Assembly. We feel we have won a small victory as King Louis gave in and listened to us. We will be allowed to be in the National Assembly and have a say and be heard! | Estate Genral. Digital image. Http://history.howstuffworks.com/historical-events/french-revolution2.htm. N.p., n.d. 4: King Louis and Marie Antionette. Digital image. Http://www.cem.msu.edu/~cem333/LouisXVII.html. Simon J Garret, n.d. Web. Now that we the Third Estate have gained some rights, everything is changing. The First and Second Estates are not happy with us gaining any kind of power. King Louis and his wife, Queen Marie Antoinette, are unable to control the Estates. Again we feel like we are not being heard and are still being treated like dirt. But we have a plan.
Battle of Bastille. Digital image. Http://www.onthisdeity.com/14th-july-1789-%E2%80%93-the-storming-of-the-bastille/. Jim Bliss, n.d. Web. Today is July 14, 1789 and our plan unfolds. A big mob of our Third Estate went down to get some gun powder and attacked the Bastille, a Paris prison. We did not stop until the prison was torn down brick by brick. Before long our rebellion spread from the city of Paris into the countryside. From one village to the next. We were finally getting attention.
Great Fear. Digital image. Http://www.xtimeline.com/evt/view.aspx?id=826506. Kelly Chen, n.d. Web. It hasn't been long since our rebellion started and we have heard that Nobles are hiring outlaws to terrorize and stop us. This struck great fear in the Third Estate throughout France.
Back to Paris. Digital image. Http://bastille-day.com/history/French-Revolution. N.p., n.d. Web. We the Third Estate now decide to travel to Versailles and force King Louis and Queen Marie Antoinette to return to Paris with us. August 4, 1789, influenced by the Declaration of Independence, France has declared the rights of man to all three Estates. We will now be treated as equals. Freedom of liberty, property, security and resistance to oppression!! State controlled church now has a concordat.
Louis Escapes. Digital image. Http://worldhistory1500.blogspot.com/2009/02/french-revolution.html. Greorgy M Miller, n.d. Web In June 1791, things seem to never stay in control for the Third Estate. Power is shifting and King Louis is trying to escape France so he does not have to deal with this mess. So now we are in a Balance of Power and a limited Monarchy called the Legislative Assembly.
Sans Collutoes. Digital image. Http://www.google.com/imgres?q=french+revolution+sans+culottes&num=10&um=1&hl=en&tbo=d&biw=1280&bih=666&tbm=isch&tbnid=LrdrU-ZCceD. N.p., n.d. Web. Emigres, Nobles and others who have fled France hoped to undo the revolution and restore the old regime. Sans-culottes wanted even bigger changes in the revolution.
War. Digital image. Http://www.dipity.com/awrasman/Events-Leading-Up-to-the-French-Revolution/. N.p., n.d. Web. France is now basically the worst place to live. We are at war with Prussia guerrillas are attacking the French army what do we do?
Death of King. Digital image. Http://elizabethsaysrawr.wordpress.com/category/the-french-revolution/. N.p., n.d. Web. It is now September 1792 and things are still pretty bad. The Jacobins, a radical political organization, have taken control and put the King Louis on trial and have sentenced him to death by guillotine.
Reign of Terror. Digital image. Http://www.presby.edu/history/faculty/heiser/course-syllabi/hist-1101-3/hist-1101-lecture-outlines/7-the-french-revolution/. N.p., n.d. Web. Now that King Louis is dead, France has started a rein of terror due to the new King, Maximilien Robes Pierre, who has sent out spies to make sure all Estates are obeying his rules. If anyone is found to be not following the rules, they are put on trial and sentenced to death. Most days you can hear the national razor being used 1000 times per day. People of all Estates are being killed for breaking the King's laws. It seems the only way we are equal is in death.
Jail. Digital image. Http://www.executedtoday.com/2008/07/. N.p., n.d. Web I have not been able to write in a while as I have been put in jail for talking bad about France. This will be my last entry because I will be put to death tomorrow. It is my hope that one day my descendants will know what it is like to be free.
