FC: Journey To Jessa January 2009
On January 24, 2009 we said goodbye to Tobin and left Atlanta for Addis Ababa. We brought 4 bags full of donations for Hannah's Hope the orphanage. Ethiopia here we come!
We met all of the other families traveling in DC and took the 15 hour flight to Addis together. . | We landed evening time in Ethiopia and the HH drivers took us to our hotel.
Gotcha Day Monday, January 26, 2009 | Almaz went over the paperwork with us and walked us all over to Hannah's Hope to meet Fikrte.
When we first meet Fikrte she was asleep in her crib. We let her sleep and got to hold her later. She was not very happy because she knew that we were strangers. She was very attached to the nannies and was sad to have to leave. Fikrte liked to sit out on the porch of the hotel with Clark and watch the people and cars go by.
Jessa asleep in her baby bed which she was too big for. Bottle and lotion time. | We spent the next few days getting to know each other. Sarah stayed in the hotel with Jessa most of the time..
Jessa Fikrte was sad for the first two days because she really missed her home at the orphanage. But, soon she started smiling and laughing. She loved being carried and didn't want to be put down. She also loved her Daddy and wanted him to sit outside with her.
Hannah's Hope was the orphanage where Fikrte lived at and it was the most amazing place. The kids were so sweet and the nannies so loving to them.
Ethiopia was so beautiful and the people were warm and friendly. We got to go shopping with the other families. Clark got to walk around and see more of Ethiopia in the next few days and take some good pictures.
On our last night in Ethiopia the whole group went out to an ethnic ninner where we had authenic Ethiopian food, music, and dancing.
The group of families that we traveled with was the biggest our agency had sent yet - 9 families.
Six days after leaving for Ethiopia, the three of us borded a flight for home. Jessa did great on the 17 hour flight to DC. | Tobin and the family were waiting for us. Jessa and Tobin were shy at first but loved eachother fast.
Our first weeks home as a family of four!
