This Book Report is on Mia Hamm, who was born on March 17, 1972 in Selma, Alabama.

Summary This book is about Mia Hamm, who is one of the most famous soccer players of all time! She was born on March 17 in Selma, Alabama. Mia has three other siblings and her Mom and Dad. Mia started playing soccer at age five. She was one of the youngest players on her team. In 1977 her family adopted a Thai-American boy who was eight named Garrett. Mia and Garrett became really close. In 1982, Mia Hamm watched her first World Cup. Italy won the 1982 world cup with a victory of 3-1 against Germany in the final game! As a teenager Mia went to Notre Dame High School in Wichita Falls. She didn't play any sports but soccer. In 1985 Mia was just thirteen years old when she became a Texas All-State selection in womens soccer. She was then chosen to join the Olympic development team. Having the chance to play in the Olympic Games made Mia realize what she wanted to do, play soccer. Mia Hamm soon went to college at the University of North Carolina with her Coach being Anson Dorrance. Mia played lots of games during her college year and there she met a girl named Kristine Lily and they became best friends. In 1987, when she was only fifteen, she was asked to join a women's national team and she accepted. Leaving her team at UNC was hard but she really wanted to play on a national team. When she was only 19 Mia and her team won their first women's World Cup! In 1993 Mia returned back to college and completed UNC's leading scorer in goals. In 1994 there was a lot of changes in Mia's life. She got married Dec. 17, 1994. She continued to play soccer and work hard. In 1996 they won the gold medal at the Olympic Games. She was named U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year 5 times in a row! Mia accomplished so much in her life. She retired Dec. 8, 2004 leaving behind a legacy. She is an inspiration to so many of us!

Most Interesting Fact I think the most interesting fact was when she was only fifteen she was asked to play on the U.S. National Team. Another fact I thought was interesting was when she was thirteen she was asked to join the Olympic Development team, she was already eligible for a college scholarship too!

How would you describe this person? I would describe Mia Hamm as someone I can look up to. I think she is determined, hard-working, competitive, encouraging, giving, ambitious, and has a big heart. She inspires me and sends out a message to never give up on your dreams.

If you could meet this person what would you ask her? If I could meet Mia Hamm I would ask her "What do you love about soccer?", "How did you figure out soccer was your best sport?", and "What would you have done with your life if you had never played soccer?".

Would you recommend this book? Yes I would recommend this book because I want people to know how amazing this women is. She has a love for the game and her skills were incredible. She was a very determined little girl and followed her dreams. She became famous all because of one sport... SOCCER

I have worked to hard and too long to let anything stand in the way of my goals. I will not let my teammates down and I will not let myself down. ~~ Mia Hamm
