2: Levi Strauss was born in Buttingheim, Germany, in 1829. When his father died, Levi, his mother, and his sisters moved to the U.S. Then, in 1848, gold was discovered in California. Levi moved to San Francisco. In 1872, he got a letter for a tailor named Jacob Davis. Jacob had the idea to make copper riveted pants. He asked Levi to buy a patent, because other tailors copied his work. Levi bought a patent, and it arrived in 1873. The pants soon became VERY popular, and Levi became a millionaire. 4: CARRIE UNDERWOOD by Taylor Cast Carrie Underwood was born on March 10, 1893, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. As a kid, Carrie loved to sing. She started out singing at churches, school performances, and talent shows. In 2004, Carrie heard about auditions for "American Idol", so she traveled to St. Louis, Missouri to try out. 5: Rosa Louise Parks was a women who was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. Rosa's parents separated when she was a child. Her dad was a carpenter. Her mom was a teacher. | Rosa went to a school that was only for girls. While she was growing up, segregations was happening. | When she was older, she rode the bus to work. She had to sit in the back. Sometimes she had to stand, even if there were seats in the front. Rosa was getting tired of segregation. | Then, one day Rosa sat in the front of the bus. 6: Jack (Jackie) Robinson played basketball, baseball, football, and track at UCLA. He became the first black Major League Baseball player ever. Jackie won Rookie of the Year and hit 12 home runs. 7: John Glenn was born on July 18, 1912. He was born in Cambridge, Ohio. John's dad was a pilot. John's dream was to become a pilot. He became a war pilot and was asked to be an astronaut. | On February 20, 1962, at Cape Canaveral, Florida, John was in a rocket called Friendship 7, because he was with six other people.
