8: Eiffel Tower | Paris, France | The Eiffel Tower was designed by Gustave Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923), a French engineer, specialized in metallic buildings such as bridges. Steel construction was then a revolutionary technique. Completed in 1889 for the Paris world exhibition, the Eiffel Tower was designed and built in just two years by 132 workers and 50 engineers. The Eiffel Tower is nowadays 324 meters high with television antennas. It weights 7300 tons.
