That's what women have to focus on: what makes them happy and what makes them feel comfortable and beautiful. If I can have any impact, I want women to feel good about themselves and have fun with fashion." | Michelle Obama's dress from Barack's inaugaration on January 20, 2011. It is currently now displayed in the Smithsonian American History Museum in Washington, DC.

 It's All About the Fashion!

Do YOU have what it takes? | Since the influence is private and usually behind the scenes, US First Ladies do not get the credit they deserve. To be President of the United States you must be a natural born citizen, at least 35 years of age, and a resident for at least 14 years. In contrast, there are no official requirements for First Lady. | She has influence, but no legal authority. The job requires that the First Lady be on call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Everything she does as her role of President's wife will be criticized, sometimes praised. It is very important for her to build a honest relationship with the American Public. | "Their power is based on a wedding ring, not the electorate." | "There is no training manual for First Ladies. You get the job because the man you married becomes President." -- Hilary Clinton | NEEDED: First Lady of America Must be able to: - oversee maintenance of a large home - entertain on a moment's notice - please all the people, all the time!

Do's, Don'ts and Duties | of first lady | The duty of First Lady is not an elected one and receives no salary. Her main role is to be the hostess of the White House. This includes being in charge of all social and ceremonial events and organizing and attending official ceremonies and functions of state either along with, or in place of, the President. Also, over the course of the 20th Century it had became increasingly common for first ladies to select specific causes to promote, such as Michelle Obama's fight towards childhood obesity. | Acting like a first lady does not include being rude and acting immature. She must be on her best behavior and set an example and represent the idea of a true "American Lady." You will never see Michelle Obama screaming at her kids in public or sleeping in until noon. She is always calm and collected and does her best to provide Americans with the essentials they need to live their day to day lives. | Like many before her, Michelle Obama also has to set an example with her fashion sense. Many people, including celebrities, look up to her to represent our nation while looking professional and successful. A first lady must also be book smart and be up to date on the many issues of our world today. | D U T I E S | D O N ' T S | D O ' S

"In the end, as First Lady, this isn’t just a policy issue for me. This is a passion. This is my mission. I am determined to work with folks across this country to change the way a generation of kids thinks about food and nutrition." - First Lady Michelle Obama After calling the issue "one of the most serious threats of the future," Michelle noted that in the past three decades childhood obesity rates have more than tripled. "We have everything we need, right now, to help our kids lead healthy lives ... so let's move to solve it." She is absolutely right. Her campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage kids of all ages that they don't need to worry about "working out," just get outside and play! Obama also confronted schools to serve healthier meals for the children on a day to day basis and provide more active free times. To help, she started an organization called the Partnership for a Healthier America. | Back in October of this year, Michelle Obama joined forces with National Geographics and Guiness World Records to set beat the world record of 20,00 people doing jumping jacks at one time. Many students, teachers, and families got together that day and beat the world record with 300, 256 people doing jumping jacks that day! Let's MOVE!

"This isn't like a disease where we're still waiting for the cure to be discovered, we know the cure for this," Obama told a crowd in the White House dining room. When her husband was elected to office in 2008, Michelle announced that her number one priority would be "#1 Mom." After urging her kids to eat healthier and exercise, Michelle started the campaign to fight childhood obesity. It has become a big problem in our word today and someone needed to do something about it. | Her reason? "It wasn't long ago that I was a working mom, struggling to balance meetings and deadlines with soccer and ballet," she said. "And there were some nights when everybody was tired and hungry, and we just went to the drive-throughs because it was quick and cheap, or went with one of the less healthy microwave options, because it was easy. And one day, my pediatrician pulled me aside and told me, ‘You might want to think about doing things a little bit differently.' That was a moment of truth for me. It was a wakeup call that I was the one in charge, even if it didn't always feel that way." | Michelle explains that when she was in school things were way different. She had to walk to and from the bus no matter the weather and recess twice a day with gym class twice a week. Then everyone ran around and played outside after school. No one went indoors until dinner. | What She Cares About Most

In the summer of 1989, Michelle told her mother that she was going to focus on her law career, not dating. Shortly after she made this statement, the law firm she was currently employed for appointer her to mentor the new employee for the summer. Barack asked her out after two weeks, only for Michelle to deny him. She thought it would be very unprofessional to date someone in her workplace, but soon she became a victim of Barack's charm. | Their Story... From partners in Law to Partners for Life | "Though he didn't love the corporate law world, he soon found himself falling for Michelle." -InStyle Magazines. | After dating for three years, Barack decided it was about time to step it up. He took her to a fancy restaurant in Chicago. When the desert tray came out there was the ring, shiny and sparking. Obama got down on one knee and won over his soon-to-be bride. They were married in October of 1992 and have now been happily married for 19 years with two children.

How She Met Mr. Right | "He sounded too good to be true..." Michelle told David Mendell, author of "Obama: From Promise to Power."

Issues Close to Her Heart | Besides working with 'Let'sMove!', Mrs. Obama joined Dr. Jill Biden and together they launched Joining Forces, a | nationwide initiative that mobilizes all sectors of society to give our nations' service members and each of their families the opportunities and support they have earned. This group was also created to raise awareness of military families' needs for employment, education and wellness. Their mission is to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans and military spouses by the year 2013.

As First Lady, Mrs. Obama looks forward to continuing her work on the issues close to her heart — supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, encouraging national service, promoting the arts and arts education, and fostering healthy eating and healthy living for children and families across the country. | Planning For A Better Tomorrow | First Lady Michelle Obama reads "Twas the Night Before Christmas" during a Christmas holiday program with children, parents and staff at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., Dec. 12, 2011.
