Tapestry Project - Page Text Content

BC: In conclusion throughout the tapestry project I portrayed two different sides of Dreams, dreams while you are sleeping and dreams and goals for the future. As I was talking about dreams while you sleep I showed many different ways that this can occur. With my quote I showed that dreams can be happy and carefree but with my picture that dreams can also be very dark. For the most part I think I portrayed most aspects of this side of dreams and I do not have many further questions. I realized when I was talking about dreams and goals for the future that there are many different aspects to this side in dreams. Although I portrayed many sides I feel as though there are still many other sides to dreams and goals that I did not discover. Finally in my opinion without dreams this world would be a place without imagination or any motivation to move forward. | Conclusion

FC: Dreams

Introduction | The concept that I chose to write about is dreams. By the end of the tapestry project I want to have shown two different sides of dreams. One side being the side of having goals and dreams for the future, the other side being dreams you have when you are asleep. Something that I am the most interested in understanding about this concept is what it is like to dream when you sleep for other people. I find this interesting because I like to hear about other people's experiences in their dreams since they are all different.

Quotation One | "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams."

This quotation talks about dreaming while you sleep. It shows some of what dreaming is like as well. It talks about how you can really be yourself when you dream. How you don't have to worry about what you say or do because it is only a dream. Nothing will actually physically hurt you and nobody is actually there to judge you. Dreaming is very important to most people; it is the only time that you can ever just be yourself without any consequences. It can also allow you to go or do whatever you want and experience the impossible.

The Story of Rose -Margo Polo The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn't already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, "Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I'm eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?" I laughed and enthusiastically responded, "Of course you may!" and she gave me a giant squeeze. "Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?" I asked. She jokingly replied, "I'm here to meet a rich husband, get married, have a couple of children, and then retire and travel." "No seriously," I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. "I always dreamed of having a college education and now I'm getting one!" she told me. After class we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this "time machine" as she shared her wisdom and experience with me. Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up. At the end of the semester we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I'll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium. "We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success." "You have to laugh and find humor every day." "You've got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die. We have so many people walking around who are dead and don't even know it!" "There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don't do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn't take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding the opportunity in change." "Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets." She concluded her speech by courageously singing "The Rose." She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives. At the year's end Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it's never too late to be all you can possibly be.Follow Your Dreams, and remember to buy Roses for your Grandma!

Short Story | This short story is another example of people having dreams as goals. In this story an older lady, Rose decides to go back and to get her degree which has always been her dream. She becomes very well liked and gives a speech at the author’s football banquet on dreams and goals. When Rose says "When you lose your dreams, you die" It is another example of what my first quotation was saying. If you stop dreaming and having goals for yourself then you are never going to have anything to work towards or accomplish. Another perspective that this story has shown can be found when Rose says "Have no regrets. The elderly usually don't have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do". This shows that it is important to always work towards all of your goals and to never quit on what you are trying to achieve. A lot of people are procrastinators and as a result they are missing important opportunities and moments because they have given up on trying achieving their goals

I have often dreamed Of a far-off place Where a great warm welcome Will be waiting for me Where the crowds will cheer When they see my face And a voice keeps saying This is where I'm meant to be I will find my way I can go the distance I'll be there someday If I can be strong I know ev'ry mild Will be worth my while I would go most anywhere to feel like I belong I am on my way I can go the distance I don't care how far Somehow I'll be strong I know ev'ry mile Will be worth my while I would go most anywhere to find where I belong

Go the Distance- Hercules | This song is from the Disney movie Hercules. In this song Hercules sings about how he would go to any lengths to be able to follow his dream and fit in dream and where he fits in. The song relates to the quotation and story as it talks about the need to follow and accomplish your dreams. It also shows that Hercules has confidence that one day he will accomplish his goal. The song also introduces another side of following your dreams and goals. It shows the side of working hard and doing what it takes to accomplish your dreams...

All her life Tally wanted to be a pretty. She never doubted that being a pretty was the most important part in her life; it was her one and only dream. However, as the story goes on and tally ends up in the smoke she realizes that maybe being a pretty isn't what she really wants. This shows that your dreams and goals can always change. It is important to keep an open mind when it comes to your goals in life because maybe what you thought was most important could end up not being what you really wanted.

 Novel

Dancer | All her life Mia had dreamed of becoming a professional ballerina. Everyone said that it would never happen, but she never listened. In time Mia began to believe what everyone said. She didn't care about her dreams and quit dancing. Eventually, she realized dancing was where she belonged and returned. Mia competed and won but never really thought about her dreams again. Until, after an amazing performance, a scout offered a scholarship to a ballet academy. Mia could finally fulfill her dreams.

 Flash Fiction

"""Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives."

This quotation talks about dreaming while you sleep. It shows some of what dreaming is like as well. It talks about how you can really be yourself when you dream. How you don't have to worry about it because it is only a dream and nothing can happen that will actually physically hurt you as well as nobody is actually there to judge you. I think that dreaming is very important to most people it is the only time that you can ever just be yourself without any consequences. It can also allow you to go or do whatever you want even if it is not possible that you could ever experience it in real life... | Quotation two

A Bed Of Clouds I sleep in the clouds, dream in the sky, I'll keep dreaming as life passes me by, I think my dreams keep me sane, I dream of happiness, a life without pain, some people say I'm stuck in this place, and I'll never go anywhere, but in my dreams I've already been there, I know some day I'll have to wake up, but I feel the real world is more like a nightmare, I'm safe in my closed eye wonderland, this poem goes to all the dreamers that understand, no matter what they say... keep your dreams but don't dream your life away -Ashley L. May

Poetry | Like my second quotation this poem talks about how dreaming is safe and happy you can see this when the poem says "I'm safe in my closed eye wonderland". When the poem introduces a new perspective on dreams when it says "I feel the real world is more like a nightmare" It shows the authors perspective of the real world. Then the poem goes on to talk about how it is important and good to dream but you cannot just dream your life away. You can see this when the poem says "keep your dreams but don't dream your life away"...

Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange. -Cobb

In the movie “Inception” the main character Cobb goes into people dreams and is able to view them. It is his job to change or steal ideas while someone is dreaming. On the specific mission he is trying to accomplish in the movie, he has to go into the dreams of man who is about to take over his dead fathers company. Cobb has to change his mind during this dream. Even though this is a fictional story, during this movie you get to see inside of many different types of dreams and see opinions on what is really happening while you dream...

 Artwork

When you think of dreams you often think of a happy and carefree dreamland but most people forget that even though a dream can be your happiest moment it can also be your worst fears. This photo represents the darker part of dreams. You can tell when you look at this photo that it is in fact a dream and not just a dark night because of the impossible aspect of the moon on the water. However some dreams do not always have any impossible aspects and you do not realize that you are dreaming until you have woken up. To most people this is the worst kind of dark dream you could have...
