6: A Austin Symphony Orchestra Genre- Classical Band | The Austin Symphony Orchestra is Austin's elite, professional orchestra and the oldest too. The orchestra was created in 1911 and this year, 2011, is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Conducted by Peter Bay, the Austin Symphony Orchestra performs different selections of classical music and works at the Long Center. Also the orchestra frequently partners with the Ballet Austin Professional Company in their productions. I have had the privilege several times to dance to the music of the Austin Symphony Orchestra in the Nutcracker.

7: B | The Backyard Genre- Country Venue The Backyard has been an Austin tradition since 1993. It is a well known venue for all types of music, but especially country. Several legendary country artists including Willie Nelson, David Bowie, Paul Simon, and the Allman Brothers have performed there. The Backyard has taken careful consideration the fast changes to the environment around us and in response to that, it has pledged to be always green. The Backyard is a nation wide example of how music can help an atmosphere change and be successful. |

8: Ornette Coleman Genre- Jazz/ Rhythm Blues \Solo Artist Ornette Coleman was an American Jazz Saxophonist who played a principle part in the "Free Jazz" movement of the late 1950's. He was born on March 9, 1930 in Fort Worth, Texas. Coleman started playing saxophone as a teenager, then he later became a working musician playing rhythm and blues. In the late 1950's Ornette formed his own band and started recording jazz. Later in his life, Ornette Coleman also taught himself to play trumpet and violin. In 2007, one of his saxophone jazz pieces was awarded the Pulitzer Prize. | C

9: D | Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind Genre- Country Song Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind is and original song by George Strait. It was in 1984, making it the fourth album by George Strait. It was certified the rating of Platinum by the RIAA. Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind also got five stars out of five. The sales totaled of one million copies sold in the U.S. |

10: E | The Eagles Genre- Rock Band The Eagles' lead singer Don Henley was born in Gilmer, Texas on July 22, 1947.Don is an American singer, songwriter, and drummer, and was the founding member of the Eagles. He was the lead singer and drummer of the Eagles from 1971- 1980, then the band broke up. Don Henley went on to a songwriting partnership with Glenn Fry and also a solo career. The Eagles recently played together in this past years ACL festival. The Eagles are the number one selling band in the U.S. |

11: F | The Fight'in Texas Aggie Band Genre- Classical Band | | The Fight'in Texas Aggie Band is a proud tradition and part of Texas A&M University. The band first started in 1884 with only 13 members. Now the band has grown to over 400 musicians and is the largest marching band in the country. All band members are also members of the Texas A&M University Army Corps of Cadets program. The band is proudly led by Texas A&M seniors who are distinguished with special boots.

12: G | Selena Gomez Genre- Pop Solo Artist | Selena Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992. Her parents were Mandy Teefey and Ricardo Gomez. Selena's first T.V. appearance was Barney and Friends when she was seven. Her mother Mandy, who a theater actor, was Selena's inspiration to start her own acting career. After Barney and Friends, Selena went to appear in various Hannah Montana episodes and several movies. Currently she stars in her own T.V. show, Wizards of Waverly Place. |

13: H | Houston Genre- Country Song | Houston is a country song written by solo artist, Dean Martin. It was published/ released in 1965. The record label was Reprise Records RS-6181. Dean Martin, born in Ohio, was the son of Italian immigrants. At the age of seventeen, he started showing a music career, singing in nightclubs. Over the next years of his life, Dean Martin worked himself up the chain to being a successful, famous singer. He also made movie and T.V. ads. Dean Martin died on Christmas Day 1995. |

14: I | Iguana Grill Genre- Jazz Venue | The Iguana Grill is an upscale Mexican food restaurant on Lake Travis. It has been in operation since 1995. But besides great food and drinks, the Iguana Grill is a venue for live jazz music. Several local musicians play there and not just only on the weekends. The Iguana Grill is in full operation seven days a week from 11am to 10 pm every day. It is a great place to go for great music, fun, and amazing Mexican food.. |

15: J | Just Like a Texan Genre- Classical Song | Just Like a Texan is an instrumental song for piano and guitar by Laurie York. It was published in 2003. The record label for Just Like a Texan was independent. Laurie wrote the song when she was living and teaching in a small town in South Korea. She had negative money, no piano, and very little mind, but she had one guitar. The song she wrote there became Just Like a Texan. | |

16: K | Kerrville Folk Festival Genre- Folk/ Rhythm and Blues Festival | The Kerrville Folk Festival is an 18 day long music festival held yearly in Kerrville, Texas, for various bands and artists.. It is made up of different events and competitions including the songwriting competition which draws 32 of the nation's best emerging songwriters. On the weekends that the festival extends through are workshops on songwriting, blues guitar, and harmonica. Those who win awards are recognized at a special concert the second week of the festival. The Kerrville Folk Festival is a fun place just to go hang out and listen to awesome music. . |

17: L | The Long Center Genre- Classical Venue | | The Long Center is one of Austin's main venues for classical music. Recently built, the Long Center has two theaters both complete with orchestra pits and large back stages'. The Long Center serves as a performance house to many classical Austin theater arts programs and schools. A few such as Ballet Austin, the Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the Austin Lyric Opera all perform their seasons regularly there. I have had the experience dancing in the Nutcracker at the Long Center, and it surpasses all other theaters in town.

18: M | Mercy Me Genre- Christian Pop Band Mercy Me is a contemporary Christian Pop band founded in Greenville, Texas. The band founded in 1994, is composed of six members. Mercy Me released six independent albums even before signing with NO1. Records in 2001. Their song "I Can Only Imagine", was Mercy Me's first crossover recognition. The song raised their album Almost There to double platinum. Mercy Me has released five albums since then, four of which have been rated gold. The band has also won several Dove Awards and had various Grammy Awards nominations. |!/ss:facebook

19: N | National Polka Festival Genre- Folk Festival | The National Polka Festival is held in Ennis, Texas. The festival is three days long from May 27 to May 29. This year the National Polka Festival is celebrating 45 years. The festival celebrates Czech music and heritage. The National Polka Festival also a fun element of clowns, balloons, and and bands. It's a great place to go and enjoy the Czech culture. |

20: O | Buck Owens Genre- Country Solo Artist | Buck Owens was born in Sherman, Texas on August 12, 1929. His full name is Alvis Edgar Owens Jr. Owens was a country singer and guitarist. With his band, the Buckaroos, Buck Owens had several number one hits. Buck Owens died on March 25, 2006 in Bakersfield,California. |

21: P | Paramount Theater | Genre- Jazz/ Classical Venue | The Paramount was originally called the Majestic Theater. It first opened to the public on October 11, 1915 as a theatrical and movie theater. From the 1930's to the 1940's the Paramount Theater began to change from just theatrical and movies to other forms of the arts. The Majestic Theater first hosted ballerinas on its stage in the 1930's. The Paramount is a historic theater which I have also performed in. |

22: Q | Quiet Valley Ranch Genre- Rhythm and Blues/ Folk Venue | The Quiet Valley Ranch is the music venue location for the Kerrville Folk Festival. The ranch is located between Kerrville and Medina, Texas. Besides hosting the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Quiet Valley Ranch has 50 unspoiled beautiful for camping and several other various attractions. Also avaliable at the ranch are bird and deer watching. The Quiet Valley Ranch is a great place to go and enjoy the beauty of the hill country. |

23: R | Heart of Texas Rockfest | Genre- Rock Venue | The Heart of Texas Rockfest was started in March 2000, with one venue and sixteen bands. The venue is ten days long. Now in its thirteenth year, the rockfest hosts several hundred acts and is located all over downtown Austin. The Heart of Texas Rockfest is completely free with no charge at all. Every year a new star is discovered at the Heart of Texas Rockfest. |

24: S | Spirit of Aggieland | Genre- Classical Song | The Spirit of Aggieland is the proud fight song of Texas A&M University. The Texas A&M CORE Aggie band plays the song. The Spirit of Aggieland is played at every major A&M sports event. The CORE yell leaders direct the students in the singing of the fight song. Orginally the Spirit of Aggieland was a poem by Marvin M. Himms when he was a student at A&M. |

25: T | Tejano Conjunto Festival | Genre- Americana Festival | The Tejano Conjunto Festival is located in San Anotonio, Texas. This is the 30th annual time the Tejano Conjunto Festival has happened. The festival has two different locations. One is the historic Guadalupe Theater from May 10- 12. The other is at Rosedale Park from May 13- 15. The Tejano Conjunto Festival is a place to go and learn about traditional tejano music. | |

26: U | Uncle Walt's Band Genre- Country Band | Uncle Walt's Band is a country band that became a legend on the Austin music scene. The members of the band are Walter Hyatt, Champ Hood, and David Ball. The band actually formed in Spartanburg, SC not Austin. Uncle Walt's Band was formed while Walter Hyatt was in high school. After graduating high school, the trio moved to Nashville, TN. The band played at various Nashville. Uncle Walt's band then decided to try their luck in Austin. The band immediately clicked with Austin and its progressive country music |

27: V | Stevie Ray Vaughan Genre- Rock/ Blues Solo Artist | Ray Vaughan was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He began playing guitar at the age of seven. When he was twelve he started playing in garage bands, at the age of seventeen he dropped out of high school to concentrate on music. Vaughan popularity grew and he became famous. Sadly on August 27, 1990 Stevie Ray Vaughan and four other passengers died in a helicopter crash. Vaughan however is still remembered and his music is becoming more popular. |

28: W | Edgar Winter Genre- Jazz/ Blues/ Rock/ Hip Hop Solo Artist | Edgar Winter was born in Beaumont, Texas. By the time he left Beaumont in the 1960's, Edgar Winter knew every aspect of music. Winter was involved in several bands throughout his life. Some included White Trash and The Edgar Winter Group, but he has also performed solo too. Edgar Winter is currently living in Beverly Hills with his wife. He continues to be a music legend and he stays at the top of his game being the absolute possible best he can be at instruments and music. |

29: X | SXSW South By Southwest Genre- Country/ Rock/ Pop Festival/ Venue | | SXSW is a venue for film and music festivals in Austin. This year, 2011, it is celebrating its 25 anniversary. SXSW takes place every spring around march in downtown Austin. The venue or festivals, first started in 1987. SXSW is one of the largest music festivals in the United States. Every year it has over 2,000 performers. SXSW attracts all ages of music lovers.

30: Y | The Yellow Rose of Texas Genre- Country/ Folk Song | The Yellow Rose of Texas is a country folk song by Mark Whitelaw. It was originally a folksong in early colonial Texas history. The first copy was hand written on a piece of plain paper around 1836. Historical records hint that it was written shortly before or after the fight of San Jacinto, April 21, 1836.The Yellow Rose of Texas is now a commonly known and beloved song throughtout Texas |

31: Z | ZZ Top Genre- Blues/ Rock Band | ZZ Top is an American rock/ blues band. Sometimes called the "That Little Ol' Band from Texas", ZZ Top is from Houston, Texas. The band was formed in 1969. For part of the band's career, they spent in London, England. ZZ Top has sold over 50 million albums worldwide. They have also been inducted into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame. |
