FC: The Seawolf
by Sharon Tankersley Wright with apologies to Mr. Moore
'Twas the night before retirement and all through the land, boat brokers were laughing and rubbing their hands. T and Poppy had decided and were ready to buy their retirement dream, their pie in the sky.
Their children were nestled all snug in their lives while visions of boating danced in T & Poppy's eyes.
They would not snuggle down for a long retirement nap, rather they threw off their afghans and grabbed captain's caps.
The boat broker made such a fuss and a clatter, T & Poppy sprang down to Destin to see what was the matter. Away they flew with hope and hearts all a flutter, you hardly heard T when she muttered, "Lord, I hope it's a dandy. I'm ready to live on the boat, at the beach. Make a decision, Randy!"
When what to their wondering eyes should appear - but a 33 foot Carver, and they knew this was their year.
With the previous owner not lively, not quick, Poppy knew he had found it. He didn't even get sick! | More rapid than eagles the boat broker came, and the insurance salesmen all wanted their name.
Inspection, barnacles, a seaworthy trip, the potty, the shaft drive, some guy named Skip.
From Destin to Orange Beach, the intercoastal called. T & Poppy's backyard can no longer be walled.
And now he is captain and she his first mate. They're laughing and playing just like their first date.
Their eyes how they twinkle. Their dimples how merry. The sea and the wind Make their cheeks red as cherries! Their swimsuits and hats are required wardrobe. The path to the boat is their most favorite road.
A bundle of stuff T puts in the car: blankets and pillows, and a full pickle jar; new dishes, beach shoes and Poppy's pajamas. It's all stuff they need for their boat glamorama!
Their GPS, compass & big charts of the sea Will help them come back to their children as safe as can be.
And so Poppy puts on His white captains’ hat and T’s smart salute makes Him feel like all that!
Now we all hear them shout As they head out of sight, “Merry boating to all, and to all a goodnight.”
