BC: Home again (at Simon and Annie's). Safe at last.
FC: FAMILY | 2012
Friday, July 6, 2012 The first day of our vacation. Dad, Mom, Malan, Hansen and Rebekah flew to Seattle, Washington to start our adventure. The flight went smoothly, but we did have a little bit of stress getting our rental car. We spent our first night at a hotel near the Seattle airport.
Saturday, July 7, 2012 Up and ready to travel to Canada. The scenery was especially beautiful. Too bad Bevan's not with us to enjoy the gleaming red Ferrari.
Lunch at Subway in the oceanside town of Horseshoe Bay, British Columbia.
Nothing says "Blake family vacation" like some park time. All parks in Canada have totem poles, eh?
Hilton resort hotel in Whistler, British Columbia. Home away from home!
The Olympic village in downtown Whistler.
 Tiger Woods better watch out!
Sunday, July 8, 2012 Forty-mile trip to go to church at the Squamish Branch.
Sacrament Meeting in the Squamish Branch had a whole twenty-five people in attendance, including twelve visitors and a high council speaker. At least they didn't have to set up another sacrament tray when we walked in. And we got to enjoy a new innovation--a two-hour church block! Meanwhile, the parking lot had recently been voted the best view in the entire church. No surprise.
After Church, we spent some time looking for bald eagles. No luck, but we did see some pretty countryside.
Olympic ski jump and biathlon venues
 Medal Ceremony
While Hansen celebrated his Olympic biathlon shooting medal by building an "Inukshuk" out of small stones, Malan runs laps on the biathlon penalty ring.
 Our first bear sighting.
Our next stop was the Whistler Sliding Center, the site for the bobsled, luge and skeleton competitions. It would be a lot scarier with ice!
Dining outdoors at a local Whistler Village restaurant.
Ice cream at Cow's, a local Whistler institution.
Monday, July 9, 2012 We spent all morning exploring the mountains surrounding Whistler. The highlight was the "Peak-to-Peak" gondola ride. After leaving Whistler, we enjoyed the beautiful scenery at the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park.
There's snow on top of the mountains! If someone had told us, we would have worn our coats.
The first gondola ride was only the start. After playing in the snow for awhile, it was time to take a chairlift even higher up the mountain. We hope the view from up there will be worth it! Leah wouldn't have enjoyed it.
While the rest of the family rested up a little bit from the strenuous chairlift ride, Dad hiked over to the next ridge. What a feeling of accomplishment!
On our way back down so we can take the Peak-to-Peak ride.
Peak-to-Peak the longest unsupported gondola span in the world.
 Are we crazy, or what?
 How can we be smiling?
 How far up are we?
While on our way down the mountain, we saw a mama bear with her two cubs. We were very happy to be high up in the air in the chair lift.
After leaving Whistler, we visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park. The centerpiece of the Park is a 500-foot pedestrian suspension bridge over the Capilano River. We also enjoyed the Treetop Adventure and the Cliff Walk--dizzyingly high suspended footpaths through the trees and cliffs of the Park. Leah wouldn't have liked it.
Tuesday, July 10, 2012 Today was the day Mom had been looking forward to all vacation--a whale watching trip in the Vancouver Sound. The trip didn't disappoint. We saw dozens of whales, and also eagles and seals. After returning to dry land we enjoyed watching some street performers, snagging some dinner at a local restaurant (can you say double-decker-hamburger-cheese sandwich?), and skipping stones at the beach at sunset.
The Vancouver skyline--almost as impressive as Dallas. Meanwhile, on our way back to shore we were subjected to having to listen to a diatribe about the evils of fish farming. At least we didn't have to hear about the dangers of global warming.
After watching the street entertainment, Mom and Dad have decided to quit their jobs and do the same thing. Is Mom flexible enough? Will Malan and Hansen bail us out by volunteering to juggle for us?
Who knew that a double-decker hamburger would fit in between two grilled cheese sandwiches? Mmm, Mmm, good!
Who knew we'd find Henry Spencer's house on the beach in White Rock, British Columbia?
Wednesday, July 11, 2012 White Rock, British Columbia is the location of most of the filming of the TV show "Psych." We spent most of today taking pictures of as many "Psych" locations as we could. Here is the headquarters, which is next to the walkway by the sea and the "Santa Barbara" pier.
Hotel office from "Feet Don't Kill Me Now" | Bobo's Donut Shop from "Last Night Gus" | Lassiter's House from "Lassie Did a Bad, Bad Thing" | Shawn's House from "Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark" | A Random Victim's House from "Last Night Gus" | Restaurant from "Mr. Yin Presents . . ."
Cafe from "The Spellingg Bee" | Restaurant from the Pilot Episode | Coffee Shop from "Death is in the Air" | Muffler Shop from "The Greatest Adventure in the History of Basic Cable"
 Dinner Fun
Dinner | A visit to the Vancouver Temple
A nice walk on the White Rock beach at sunset.
We spent our final day in Canada enjoying Grouse Mountain, a family resort at the peak of one of the mountains overlooking Vancouver. Highlights included grizzly bears, eagles and owls, a lumberjack show, hang gliders, and a trip up one of the world's tallest wind turbines. The only way to get up to Grouse Mountain is on one of the world's longest and steepest tram rides. Leah would not have enjoyed it. | Thursday, July 12, 2012
 Birds of Prey
 Back in the USA!
Friday, July 13, 2012 Back in the United States, we spent Friday evening hanging out with "our friends," the Tracys. We had an enjoyable time--the girls hanging with each other, enjoying laughing and visiting and other girlie stuff, and the boys hanging with the Mariners and Rangers. There are no friends like old friends.
