S: Marty & Aubrey's Wedding -- July 9th 2011

BC: Just Married...

FC: July 9th 2011

2: How we met... | That time came in the spring of 2010 when both of us boarded separate buses on our way to Florida with our respective Campus Life clubs. Within minutes of leaving the parking lot, several Lansing Campus Life staff members had established what would be known as team Marty with the sole purpose of getting Aubrey and me to speak. Additionally, her aunt had already singled me out as a keeper. (That's a fun story too) Upon arrival Aubrey was forced, by her boss Matt Coppess, to approach me to ask an irrelevant question. That was the first of several awkward encounters. Over the next several days our courage and boldness towards each other grew. I offered a word of encouragement to her after her morning talk and let her win as we were demonstrating a campus life crowd breaker. She made me what I said was the best cup of coffee I'd ever had and stayed behind to help me clean up after one of our Campus Life evening meetings. We both were very intentional to put our jobs as staff ahead of any budding romance, but still managed to find moments to connect. As she and several of her students headed out one early morning to watch the shuttle launch, she was secretly hoping I would be doing the same. I was also hoping that she would be out there and also made sure to wish her a good night when we were doing our final rounds before nightly curfew. | Even though our encounters with each other were limited, we both got to see the other in their element as we interacted with our Campus Life students. I was impressed and apparently, so was she. As we headed home, I had it firmly set in my mind to get her number before she had a chance to leave Lansing. (She does Campus Life in Saginaw) Apparently, she got tired of waiting for me though and on our last stop before getting back to Lansing, as I walked up to her, she simply gave me her phone and told me to put my number in it. I'm no dummy...I did as I was told. In Lansing, she got off the bus long enough to exchange good-byes, share our first hug and I insisted that she call me on her way home, my excuse being that I didn't want her to fall asleep during her late night drive home. She bought it, we talked and talked and quickly made plans for a first date. The first date was a success and a second date was planned before she left. The second date was also a success kinda. Easter eggs, Harvey’s and golfing but that is a whole different story.. P.S. Getting off the bus to talk to me was the best decision she ever made | Well, our relationship took many twists and turns in its early stages. Most of our early encounters with each other can only be described as dead ends. Our first impressions of each other were less than positive. He was a nerdy euchre player and she was a stuck up ex cheerleader. ...but luckily for her our paths would continue to cross over the next few years. Several people openly and insistently encouraged us to look past our first impressions. One person in particular, foreseeing our future, told Aubrey that once she got to know me it would only be a matter of time before she fell in love.

3: It was an awesome walk, over cast but we missed most of the rain even the slight mist was enjoyable. We went back the house for the MSU game and at half time; Leila and I went to our usual shopping spot and got out of Marty’s way for an hour. He wrote me a sweet note, that was left under my pillow for when I got back after sunset. Leila and I found a luck penny on the street; she made sure to hand it off to me mentioning it could be your lucky day | Her and I got back with our new prized possessions and not much time after, Marty and I left for an unsuspecting, laid back dinner at The House of Flavors and then as usual our walk out to the pier for sunset. I had forgotten my camera but no worries Marty had his.. on our way out I begged to get of the pier to take a picture with our pants rolled up and toes in the cold water. Little did I know “He wanted to ask me a very important question..” and also the ring was in the blessed camera case that I had been asking for Well he help me off the pier and made mention to our conversation a few months back about how on this walk I knew he was “THE ONE” before I knew it he was on one knee and back up hugging me I said YES! stopped and asked if he talked to my father as soon as he said yes my eyes watered | The Proposal | What a special weekend!.. MSU 35 beats Northwestern 27.. My father’s birthday was the 22nd .. Marty, his’ mother and I were spending the weekend up in the beautiful town of Ludington. Saturday morning we sipped on our cups of coffee and then headed out into the state park to see the promised fall colors. | Then I looked at the ring on my finger it is a “beast” and beautiful! Other then all that, I loved hearing about how he asked my father and all the work he put into picking out the ring in the previous weeks before seeing his mom and making the phone calls we spent a good amount of time together praying and thanking God for the amazing blessings! We were and still are busting at the seams with excitement. Smiley is a good to-be last name, we passed a few people on the pier and I refrained from blurting it out but a day later, we did tell the coffee shop guys randomly, almost got free coffee. I also mentioned it to the rite aid woman in passing and danced with excitement when telling my CL students for the first 20 times I count how many times I said fiancé.. which is still so fun to say.. Martin Smiley the Third is my Fiancé! | "Those shoes will be spending the rest of their lives together...how romantic! "

8: Here we are at the start committing to each other By His word and from our hearts We will be a family in a house that will be a home And with faith we'll build it strong We'll build a household of faith That together we can make And when the strong winds blow it won't fall down As one in Him we'll grow and the whole world will know We are a household of faith Now to be a family we've got to love each other At any cost unselfishly And our home must be a place that fully abounds with grace A reflection of His face We'll build a household of faith That together we can make And when the strong winds blow it won't fall down As one in Him we'll grow and the whole world will know We are a household of faith | Steve Green Household Of Faith | Steve Green Household Of Faith
