S: Sebastian's First Year
FC: SEBASTIAN PETER ENGEL
A new baby is like the beginning of all things-wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities.
SEBASTIAN PETER ENGEL | July 28, 2011 | 7 Pounds, 3 Ounces | 20 Inches | 1:15 am | Fletcher Allen Hospital, Burlington, VT | You came home on Friday, July 29th. Grandma and Grandpa helped bring you home--they were there to visit you the night you were born and visited while we were in the hospital too! It was humid and rainy when we drove home. Mommy was very happy to be out of the hospital, and Daddy made delicious omelet's for dinner after picking up veggies from our farm share. You did lots of sleeping, but when you were awake, you looked around at everything and seemed very strong for such a tiny guy!
We took you for your very first stroller ride the second day you were home! You liked sleeping in the sun.
1st Month | August was a busy month! You and Mommy went to Maine to visit Memere and Pepere and all your aunts and uncles on Mommy's side. We also saw Memere and Pepere Thibeault, and your Great Grammie and Grampa. Later, Grandma and Grandpa came to Vermont again with Great Grandma Murphy. We visited with them at the West's.
 Look how strong I am!
2nd month | Milestone: -Sits with Support
When you stayed up late, Daddy would teach you to play Dwarf Fortress while Mommy slept. He also protected you from goblin snatchers.
 3rd month
Milestones: -Smiles Intentionally -Reaches for and Grasps Toys -Lifts Head and Shoulders off Floor
4th month | Milestones: -Rolls Over -First Snow -First Plane Ride
In November, you took your first plane ride--all the way to Kansas! You were amazingly good. We started playing patty-cake a day or two before the trip and you thought it was hilarious. It entertained you during the flight. You had a lot of fun playing with Memere and Pepere and all of your aunts and uncles. They found out that you like being scared and kept saying “Boo!” to you and you would startle and then laugh and laugh . . . they blew in your face with the same results.
4th month | Milestones: -Starts Solid Food -Finds Feet -First Christmas
You were so ready for real food. Whenever we’d eat you would watch us intently, and then copy our chewing even though you had nothing in your mouth! You didn’t really take any time learning to eat, either. You seemed to know just what to do the very first time we gave you cereal. And you loved when we let you try other things like sweet potatoes and banana. The only exception so far is avocado. You made a priceless face when we offered that to you—a face that clearly meant you were shocked we would ever give you something so awful.
We celebrated your first Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa. You met your Great Grandma Engel for the first time, and had a lot of fun with Great Grandma Murphy, and Aunt Elizabeth and Uncle Christopher. You met so many people it was a little overwhelming for you at times-- there was a party almost every day we were there, and we visited for a week! But for the most part, you loved the attention, and everyone loved you.
precious first moments | 6th month
You’re getting pretty good at sitting up with the support of the boppy to help stabilize you. Sometimes we practice without the boppy on the bed, but I laugh too much when you fall over so you’ve decided that’s the point. Every time I sit you up, you fall over on purpose now. Oops. You are also obsessed with your hands. Sometimes, I find you studying them quietly when I think you’re napping. You love watching our fingers when we count to you, too. Counting always calms you down when you get upset!
What I'm Up To . . . | Trying lots of new foods, and holding things with just my mouth. Look! No hands!
Visiting Great Grammie and Grampa and Aunt Angela in Maine | Reading! My favorite books are Baby Faces, Fuzzy Bee, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

You've been chewing on everything lately, and with good reason! You finally got your first tooth! You are growing so quickly. You are really starting to play with your toys, and you are very interested in our birds and bunnies. It's been unusually warm lately, so we've been able to spend a lot of time outdoors. It got so hot one day, you played in your bath on the front porch!

Then you had cake at Grandma and Grandpa's house the next day. We visited Memere and Pepere in Maine a couple weeks later for two more parties. It's been an amazing year already, and we can't wait to see what you do next!
