1: I dedicate this book to my family with whom I have shared the love of food in my kitchen.

2: Honey BBQ Sauce | 1/2 c BBQ sauce 1/2 c honey pinch cayenne Combine ingredients and use on ribs, wings, pork chops even as a sauce for beef on a bun. The uses are endless. NOTE: What’s great about this recipe is you need equal parts of the two main ingredients, so you can make as much or as little to suit your needs | Sauces

3: Teriyaki Sauce | 2 c oyster sauce 1/2 c brown sugar 1 tsp ginger 1 tbsp lemon juice 1/4 c soy sauce 1/8 c cornstarch salt and pepper to taste Combine ingredients and heat on medium until bubbling, cook for 3 minutes or until thickened.

6: Pickled Eggs | Brine: 3/4c sugar 12 boiled eggs (peeled) 1 tsp whole cloves 4 garlic cloves 3 c vinegar onion, thinly sliced 1 1/2 tsp salt pickling spice 1 1/2 c water hot pepper(s) (for each jar 2 tsp pickling spice Bring first six ingredients (brine) to a boil for 5 minutes then let cool. Stuff jar with eggs, onions, garlic and hot peppers. Pour in brine when cooled. Refrigerate. Ready to eat in a week. | Thanksgiving 2009

7: 1 c. broth (from cooked hocks) 3 c. vinegar 1/2 c. sugar handful of pickling spices about 4 tbsp Cook hocks with salt and pepper until tender (not to much water) keeping the broth. Combine broth, vinegar, sugar and spices boil 5-10 minutes. Strain. Pack pork hocks into jars then pour brine over them. Seal. Let sit in the fridge for 3 weeks. | Pickled Pork Hocks

8: Hot Wings Sauce | 1 tbsp cornstarch 1/2 c brown sugar 1/3 c vinegar 1/2 c pineapple juice 2 tsp soy sauce Combine cornstarch and brown sugar into a saucepan. Add vinegar, pineapple juice and soy sauce. Bring to a boil for 2 minutes until thickened and opaque. Suggestions: Pour over ribs and bake. Use as a baste over the BBQ. Try pork chops or chicken. | Sweet and Pungent Sauce (for ribs)

9: Hot Wings Sauce 3/4 c onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, minced 3 tbsp sugar 1/2 c ketchup 1/2 c Frank’s hot sauce* 1 tsp worcestershire 1 tsp Tobasco sauce* 1 tbsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper Sauté onion and garlic in butter until opaque, salt and pepper to taste. Add remaining ingredients. Then Pour vinegar just to cover the onions. Cook for 10 more minutes

11: 6 tbsp flour 4 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp dry mustard salt and pepper to taste turmeric dilute with vinegar Must sit for a least a week in the refrigerator. | Homemade Mustard | 1/2c 2 1/2tsp 2tbsp 2tbsp | (prepared)

12: 1 c oil 2 eggs 2-3 garlic cloves 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce 1/4 tsp season salt 2 tbsp lemon juice Mix together well. | Caesar Salad Dressing | Sheila's Shower 1976

14: 4 quarts water 1 c salt 1/4 c vinegar pearl onions peeled OR 8 quarts water 1 c Tenderquick*salt 1/2 c vinegar pearl onions peeled Bring water, salt and vinegar to a boil and stir until salt is dissolved. Pack jars with peeled onions and pour brine inch from top of the lid. Seal. Leave for 4 weeks | Salted Onions

16: 1st Part 1 1/2 tsp lard 1 lb cut up beef 1 lb cut up pork 1/2 tsp pepper 1 tsp salt Fry above ingredients together until cooked about 5 minutes. 2nd Part stalk celery 14 oz bean sprouts (drained) 14 oz canned mushrooms (drained) 1 1/2 tsp soy sauce 1 tbsp sugar Add these ingredients to the cooked mixture and sauté for 4 minutes. 3rd Part 32 oz cooked egg noodles 1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch 1 1/2 tbsp cold water Mix cornstarch and water together and pour into stir fry mixture stirring constantly. Cook broth an additional 2 minutes to thicken and add your egg noodles. Serve immediately. | Beef Chop Suey

17: Hamburger Soup | 1 lb. Ground beef 28 oz. can tomatoes 1 c onion chopped 1 garlic clove, minced 1 c celery 4 carrots chopped 1/2 small cabbage chopped 1 1/2 c macaroni, uncooked 1 cube Oxo*, beef bouillon water salt and pepper to taste Cook ground beef with onions and garlic until no longer pink. Add water and remaining ingredients except macaroni. When water starts to boil add macaroni. Slow boil until vegetables and macaroni are tender. | Danny's first fish

18: Sheila's Special Chicken | 8 chicken breasts 1 tbsp garlic powder 1 tsp paprika 1/2 tsp dill weed 1/2 tsp curry 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp seasoned salt 2 c whipping cream Combine ingredients and dredge chicken. Place chicken into a greased baking dish and cook in the oven at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Add whipping cream and cook and additional 15 to 20 minutes. Serve with pasta of your choice. | New Year's 2010

19: 1 cabbage (medium) 1/2 lb rice 1/2 c tomato juice 1/4 lb bacon, ham or hamburger salt and pepper to taste Place cabbage in boiling water to wilt leaves. While cooking rice, dice onion and fry with chosen meat. Mix meat mixture and rice mixture and add salt and pepper to taste. Role up mixture into cabbage leaves and place in a casserole dish. Pour tomato juice over rolls and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hours. | A cabbage can be frozen and then thawed leaving the leaves pliable enough to roll. This step would save boiling thecabbage. Also sour cabbage heads can be purchased in most supermarkets for a more ethnic flavor. | Cabbage Rolls | TIP: | Thanksgiving 2009

20: 1 lb venison 1 round tbsp curing salt This recipe can be multiplied. For every pound of meat use 1 round tbsp of curing salt. Dissolve salt in enough water to cover the meat. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2-4 days. Discard marinade. To cook roast add: 1/2 tbsp pickling spice For every 1-2 lbs of roast in the water at the bottom of your roaster. Roast slowly for 5-6 hours at 210 degrees. Turning the roast every hour to capture the flavors of the spice. | Making Corn Beef out of Venison

21: Baked Beans | Soak beans in water overnight and drain before use. 1 lb navy beans 1 quart water 1 medium onion (diced) 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp cider vinegar 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1 tbsp brown sugar 1/4 c molasses 1/2 c ketchup 1/4 lb bacon (diced) pepper to taste water to cover Place soaked beans in a bean pot or casserole dish add remaining ingredients and add enough water to cover beans. Bake at 250 degrees for 5-6 hours. Check once for liquid you may need to add more water. | Memere and Pepere Downtown Edmonton

23: Batter for Meats | 2 c. flour 1 tbsp paprika 1 tbsp dry mustard 1 tsp celery salt 1 tsp pepper 1 tsp basil 1 tsp marjoram 1 tsp thyme Mix together. Dredge meat in mixture and pan fry or bake per usual. | Thansgiving 2009

24: Grandma's | The Rendezvous Years

25: 10 lbs. ground pork 1 onion, large 8 medium potatoes, mashed salt and pepper to taste dash of poultry seasoning 2 tbsp chicken soup base Cook meat, with onion and a dash of salt with a little bit of water for about 2 hrs. Then add mashed potatoes. with remaining spices. Place into 6 unbaked pie shells. Cover with pie dough and bake 350 degrees until golden brown. | Tourtiere (meat pie) | 2010

28: Sheila's Bread 1 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp yeast 1/2 c warm water Let stand 10 minutes. 5 c flour 1 3/4 c lard melted 1/2 c sugar 1 1/2 tbsp salt 6-7 c warm water Blend together dry ingredients then add water, lard and yeast mixture until it forms a firm dough, using extra flour if necessary. Place in a greased bowl and let rise for 2 hours or double in size. Make into loaves and cover and let rise until double in size. Bake at 350 degrees for 25-35 minutes or until golden brown. Brush tops with butter

29: 3 c warm water 1/2 c sugar 6 tbsp canola oil 1 tsp salt 2 tbsp yeast 2 eggs (beaten) 7-8 c flour Mix your yeast and flour. In another bowl combine remaining ingredients. Pour dry mixture into wet mixture stirring until it forms a soft dough a bit sticky. Let rise 15 minutes. Punch down but DO NOT KNEAD. Let rise again 15 minutes. Punch down and form into buns Place into greased pans. Cover and let rise about 1 hour. Cook at 350 degrees until golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the top. | Two Hour Buns

30: 1st Part 1 c evaporated milk 1 tbsp vinegar Mix together. 2nd Part 1/2 c butter 1 1/2 c brown sugar 2 eggs Thoroughly mix together and add to milk mixture. 3rd Part 2 1/2 c brown flour 1 tsp soda 1/2 tsp baking powder Mix together and combine with liquid mixture. 4th Part In greased tins place 1 tbsp of dough rolled into balls in your hand. Then take a fork and flatten each and bake at 375 degrees for about 10 minutes. | Brown Flour Biiscuits

31: 2 c flour 1/2 c sugar 4 tsp baking powder 3/4 tsp salt 1/2 c margarine 1 egg 3/4 c milk Combine first five ingredients and then add the beaten egg with milk.Mix together and drop onto a pan and cook at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes. | Tea Buns

32: 4 c flour 8 eggs 1 tsp salt 1/4 tsp pepper water Mix together with enough water to make a hard dough. Knead on a surface lightly dusted with flour. With a hand style noodle press/cutter cut strips of dough, lightly flour and roll through the hand press to the thickness you desire. Then change roller to cut pasta into desired size. Cook in broth or water that has come to a rolling boil. Stirring constantly when you first place the noodles in. *Great with Chicken noodle Soup or Spaghetti Sauce | Homemade Egg Noodles | Tip: If you don’t own a noodle maker. Roll out dough with a rolling pin and cut long strips with a sharp knife.

33: Pizza Crust | 2 c warm water 1/4 c canola oil 1 tsp yeast 1 1/2 tsp salt 5 1/2 c flour Mix together ingredients in order listed. It will make a soft dough. If it is to sticky add a little more flour or, a little more water if it is to dry. Knead a few times and let rest for 15 minutes. Punch down and divide into two pieces. Spread onto two large pizza pans, let rise 10 minutes. Put desired toppings on and bake at 425 degrees until edges are golden.

34: 1 1/2 c flour 3/4 tsp salt pepper (dash) 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 3 tbsp canola oil 2 eggs water Combine ingredients and slowly add water until it forms a stiff dough. Drop by tablespoons into stew/soup and cover for 15 minutes (no peeking) it may spoil the cooking time. | Dumplings | Sheila at 16 | Matthew at 1 year

35: 5 c. flour 1/2 c. lard 2 tbsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/4 c .oil Mix all ingredients other than oil. Store in an airtight bag or container. On the trail mix 2 cups of Bannock Mixture with 1 cup of water. Heat oil and fry Bannock until golden b | Camping Bannock

36: 1/2 c water (warm) 1 tsp sugar 1 tbsp yeast In a small bowl combine ingredients and let stand 10 minutes. 1 c milk (scalded) 2/3 c canola oil 2/3 c sugar 1 tsp salt In a large bowl combine above ingredients. When mixture is lukewarm add: 2 eggs 1 c flour Add your yeast mixture. Then add: 3 1/2 c flour Knead dough until smooth. Place in a greased bowl and let rise for 2 hours or double in size. Punch down and pat to in / 1 cm thick. Cut into strips about in x 6 in / 1 cm x 15 cm. Dip into melted butter and roll in a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. Tie in a knot. Let rise 1 hours then bake at 350 degrees for 12 – 20 minutes. | Cinnamon Swirls | Cinnamon Mixture: 1 c Sugar 2 tbsp cinnamon

37: Cinnamon Buns 2 c milk (warm) 1 c margarine 2/3 c sugar 1 c water 2 tbsp yeast 2 eggs (beaten) 6+ c flour Combine first four ingredients then add yeast and eggs, blend. Add 6 or more cups of water until it makes a soft dough. Let rise 1 1/2 hours. Punch down dough and spread into a large rectangle spread the following ingredients onto the dough in the order listed: 1/2 c margarine 1 1/2 c brown sugar cinnamon to taste If you like the cinnamon flavor, be generous if not use less. Roll up dough and cut into 1 1/2 inch thicknesses and place in pan 1 inch allowing room to rise. When doubled in size cook in a 350 degree oven until golden brown.

40: Sheila at 13 years old | Apple Crisp 6 apples, medium 1/4 c white sugar 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp corn starch Crumbs: 1/2 c flour 1/4 c butter 3/4 c brown sugar Combine first 4 ingredients and put into a 9x12 inch pan. Combine ingredients for crumbs and sprinkle on apple mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

41: Rhubarb Crisp 3 c Rhubarb 1/2 c brown sugar 1/2 c orange juice 3 oz pkg strawberry jello Crumbs: 1/2 c flour 1/4 c butter 3/4 c brown sugar Layer the bottom of a 9x12 inch pan with rhubarb, brown sugar, orange juice and jello powder. Mix crumb ingredients and sprinkle over top. Bake at 350 degrees until lightly browned and bubbly. | Sheila at 15 years old

42: Poppy Seed Cake 1 1/4 c flour 1 c sugar 1/3 c canola oil 3/4 c water 1/2 tsp salt 3/4 c poppy seeds 1 egg 1 tsp almond extract 1 1/4 tsp baking powder Combine ingredients and pour into a greased 9x13 inch pan and bake at 350 degree for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. | 1982

43: Cookie Sheet Chocolate Cake 1 c milk 6 tbsp cocoa 1/2 c margarine 1 egg 1 c brown sugar 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla 1 c flour 1/2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp baking soda Heat milk on low, add brown sugar, cocoa, margarine, salt and vanilla, cool. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into a greased rimmed cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degree for 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. | Tip: Double recipe and bake in a 9x13 inch pan. | Bear Camp 2005

44: Amazin’ Raisin Cake 3 c flour 2 c sugar 1 c mayonnaise 1/2 c milk 2 eggs 2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground cloves 3 c apples, chopped 1 c raisins 1/2 c nuts, chopped Combine Mayonnaise, eggs and milk mix well. To this add remaining dry ingredients mix thoroughly then add apples, raisins and nuts. Batter will be thick. Spoon into two greased and floured 9 inch pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.

45: Buttermilk Cake 1 c brown sugar 1/2 c butter 1 egg 1 c buttermilk 1 tsp baking soda 1 c raisins 4 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp ground cloves 1 tsp nutmeg 1 1/2 c flour pinch of salt Mix ingredients together and bake at 350 degrees until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Tip: If you don’t have buttermilk put 1 tablespoon of vinegar in your measuring cup and fill with milk to 1 cup.

46: Rhubarb Upside Down Cake Cake: 1/2 c butter 1 1/2 c sugar 2 eggs (beaten) 3 c. flour 4 tsp baking powder 1 c milk Base: 4 c rhubarb 1/2 c sugar 1 pkg 3 oz (85 g) Strawberry Jello 1/4 c flour 3 tbsp butter Mix together base ingredients and place in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Combine cake ingredients and pour over base. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or bubbling on top. | 2010

47: Cake: 1 1/2 c sugar 2 eggs 12 ozfruit cocktail 2 c flour 1/2 tsp salt 2 tsp baking soda 1/2 c brown sugar 1 tsp cinnamon | Sauce: 3/4 c sugar 1/2 c butter 10 oz evaporated milk 1tsp.vanilla. | Mix together sugar, eggs and fruit cocktail. Into liquid mixture add flour, salt and baking soda. Spread into a 9 x 9 inch square pan. Mix together brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle on top of batter. Bake at 350 degrees until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. For the sauce bring to a boil. Remove and add vanilla, pour over top warm cake. | Fruit Cocktail Cake

48: Memere’s Fudge Cake 1/2 c butter 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 c flour 1 c nuts 1 c sugar 2 eggs 2 oz chocolate (1square) Melt chocolate squares and combine remaining ingredients and bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. TIP: Substitution for a square of chocolate is: 3 tbsp cocoa 1 tsp canola oil

49: Memere’s Ginger Cake 1/2 c brown sugar 1/2 c canola oil 1 egg 1/2 c molasses 1 3/4 c flour 1 tsp soda pinch of salt 3/4 c boiling water Mix together first five ingredients, then add the flour, cinnamon, soda and salt. Pour boiling water into the mixture, mix until just moistened. Bake in a greased 9x13 inch pan at 350 degrees until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. DO NOT OVERCOOK. | At the trapline

50: Chocolate Butter Icing 2 c icing sugar 1/4 c soft butter 2 tbsp cream 1 tsp vanilla 2 sq.unsweetened chocolate Cream butter and sugar, add cream. Then mix in vanilla and melted chocolate. | Cinnamon Frosting 1 c icing sugar 2 tbsp melted butter 1/2 tsp cinnamon 2 tbsp milk 1 tsp vanilla Beat in a bowl until smooth and spreadable. NOTE: Goes well with the Amazin' Raisin Cake | Frostings

51: Cool Whip Icing 4 oz pkg vanilla pudding113 g 1/4 c icing sugar 1 c cold milk 1 Coolwhip* Mix vanilla pudding with milk until dissolved, then add icing sugar. Fold Coolwhip* into mixture.

52: Pumpkin Pie 2 c pumpkin 1 c evaporated milk 3 egg 1/2 c white sugar 1 tsp salt 1 1/4 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground ginger 2 pie shells unbaked Combine ingredients, put in pie shells and bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes then turn down your temperature to 325 degrees for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve with whipped cream.

53: Name | Strawberry Rhubarb Pie 1 c white sugar 2 tbsp tapioca 1/4 tsp salt 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1/4 c orange juice 1 c strawberries, sliced 3 c rhubarb, chopped 1 tbsp butter 2 pie shells unbaked Combine first 7 ingredients and pour into an unbaked pie shell dab with the butter and cover top with pie dough. Brush top of pie with a beaten egg if you want a glossy browned effect. Bake at 350 degrees until bubbly and golden brown. About 45 minutes – 1 hour.

57: This Cookbook is inspired by all of the talented cooks in the family. | Butter Tarts 1 c raisins 4 tbsp butter 2 eggs 1 c brown sugar 2 tsp rum or vanilla extract 1/2 c chopped pecans 18 unbaked shells Cover raisins in hot water and soak until they are plump. Drain. Beat butter until creamy, add eggs and sugar, beat until foamy. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into unbaked shells and bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes

58: 3 eggs 1 c raisins 1 tsp vanilla 1 c butter 1 c white sugar 1 c brown sugar 2 1/2 c flour 1 tsp salt 1 tsp cinnamon 2 tsp baking soda 2 c oatmeal 3/4 c pecans Combine eggs, raisins and vanilla and let stand covered for 1 hour. Cream together butter and sugars. Add remaining ingredients including raisin mixture, it will make a stiff dough. Make into balls and press onto cookie sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. | Oatmeal Raisin Cookies | Mexico 2006

60: 1 c butter 2/3 c cocoa 2 c white sugar 4 eggs 2 c flour 1 tsp vanilla 3/4 c nuts (optional) Mix together. Spread into a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 300 degrees for 15 – 20 minutes. Ice when cool. | Cookie Sheet Brownies | The 'FAMILY' Summer 2010

61: Peanut Butter Squares 1 c butter 1 c peanut butter 2 1/2 c icing sugar 1 1/2 c graham wafer crumbs 3/4 c chocolate chips 3/4 c butterscotch chips Melt butter and peanut butter. Stir in icing sugar then graham crumbs into the butter mixture. Press into an ungreased 9x9 inch pan. Melt chips together and spread on top of mixture. Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours before cutting them into 1 inch squares.

63: Carmel Popcorn 2 c brown sugar 1/2 c corn syrup 1 c margarine 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 c popcorn Pop popcorn and place popcorn in a large roasting pan or large metal bowl. Then combine brown sugar, corn syrup and margarine and bring to a boil, boil for approximately 3 minutes. Take off of stove and add salt and soda. Pour over popcorn, stirring to coat. Bake in the oven at 200 degrees for 1 hour stirring every 20 minutes. Let cool
