1: This Cookbook has new and old recipes inside. Grandma Catherine had always inspired us to keep cooking and to try new things.

2: Horseradish Chrin 6 cans whole beets , finely grated 1 jar (5oz) horseradish sprinkle of salt 1/2 c vinegar 1/4 c water 1/2 c sugar Bring vinegar and water to a boil. Add sugar to taste. Add beets, horseradish, and salt. | Ham Glaze 1 cup honey 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup yellow mustard 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon dried minced onion 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger Mix together in a bowl: honey, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, minced onion, cloves and ginger. Pour over ham slices as a glaze.

3: Pascha Bread 3 sm. packs of dry yeast 3/4 c shortening 1/2 c lukewarm water 3/4 c sugar 2 Tbps. sugar 1 scant Tbsp salt 1 Quart milk scalded 12 c flour 6 Eggs beaten Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water with 2 Tbsp sugar. Add lukewarm milk. Add shortening, salt, and sugar. Add beaten eggs. Add a little flour. Add yeast mixture and more flour. Beat as long as you can, then mix by hand. Cover well and let raise until double (approx. 1 hour) Punch down and let raise again. Shape into 6 round loaves and place in greased baking pans. Turn oven to 350 for 1 minute and then turn oven off. Put bread in oven to raise for 1 hour. Baste with beaten egg. Bake 350 for 20-30 mins. | Hrudka (Easter Cheese) 12 eggs 1-1/2 quarts milk 1 tsp vanilla 1 heaping tsp salt 1 tsp sugar Beat eggs to break up yolks. Add milk, sugar, salt, vanilla and mix well. Cook in double boiler until mixture curds and only water remains. Near the end, add boiling water. Pour into a cloth sack, squeeze and tie tightly, shape and hang up to drain. Refrigerate. | Easter would not be complete without the additions of Sausage, Bacon, Butter in the shape of a lamb, and dyed eggs.

4: Thanksgiving consists of the Turkey 1 (18lns) Whole Turkey 1/2 C unsalted butter softened Seasonings to taste 1 1/2 Quart turkey stock 8 C prepared stuffing 1.Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Place rack in the lowest position of the oven. 2.Remove the turkey neck and giblets, rinse the turkey, and pat dry with paper towels. Place the turkey, breast side up, on a rack in the roasting pan. Loosely fill the body cavity with stuffing. Rub the skin with the softened butter, and season with salt and pepper. Position an aluminum foil tent over the turkey. 3.Place turkey in the oven, and pour 2 cups turkey stock into the bottom of the roasting pan. Baste all over every 30 minutes with the juices on the bottom of the pan. Whenever the drippings evaporate, add stock to moisten them, about 1 to 2 cups at a time. Remove aluminum foil after 2 1/2 hours. Roast until a meat thermometer inserted in the meaty part of the thigh reads 180 degrees F (80 degrees C), about 4 hours. 4.Transfer the turkey to a large serving platter, and let it stand for at least 20 to 30 minutes before carving. It also consists of Sweet Potato Casserole 5 sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1/4 cup low fat margarine 2 tablespoons orange juice 2 pinches ground cinnamon 1 (10.5 ounce) package miniature marshmallows 1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2.Boil sliced sweet potatoes in water until tender. Drain. 3.In a large bowl, blend the potatoes until creamy. Stir in the butter, brown sugar, orange juice to taste and a dash of ground cinnamon. 4.Spread the sweet potato mixture into a 9x13 inch pan. Sprinkle the miniature marshmallows over the top and bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) until golden brown.

5: Another necessity is Garlic Roasted Mashed Potatoes 1 medium head garlic 1 tablespoon olive oil 2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and quartered 4 tablespoons butter, softened 1/2 cup milk salt and pepper to taste 1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). 2.Drizzle garlic with olive oil, then wrap in aluminum foil. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour. 3.Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes, and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and chop. Stir in butter, milk, salt and pepper. 4.Remove the garlic from the oven, and cut in half. Squeeze the softened cloves into the potatoes. Blend potatoes with an electric mixer until desired consistency is achieved. | Unique add to your dinner is Sausage, Apple, and Cranberry Stuffing 1 1/2 cups cubed whole wheat bread 3 3/4 cups cubed white bread 1 pound ground turkey sausage 1 cup chopped onion 3/4 cup chopped celery 2 1/2 teaspoons dried sage 1 1/2 teaspoons dried rosemary 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme 1 Golden Delicious apple, cored and chopped 3/4 cup dried cranberries 1/3 cup minced fresh parsley 1 cooked turkey liver, finely chopped 3/4 cup turkey stock 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted | 1.Preheat oven to 350 degree F (175 degree C). Spread the white and whole wheat bread cubes in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Bake for 5 to 7 minutes in the preheated oven, or until evenly toasted. Transfer toasted bread cubes to a large bowl. 2.In a large skillet, cook the sausage and onions over medium heat, stirring and breaking up the lumps until evenly browned. Add the celery, sage, rosemary, and thyme; cook, stirring, for 2 minutes to blend flavors. 3.Pour sausage mixture over bread in bowl. Mix in chopped apples, dried cranberries, parsley, and liver. Drizzle with turkey stock and melted butter, and mix lightly. Spoon into turkey to loosely fill. | To finish your day make Pumpkin Pie 1 (9 inch) unbaked deep dish pie crust 3/4 cup white sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves 2 eggs 1 (15 ounce) can Pure Pumpkin 1 (12 fluid ounce) can Evaporated Milk | 1.Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. 2.Combine sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves in small bowl. Beat eggs lightly in large bowl. Stir in pumpkin and sugar-spice mixture. Gradually stir in evaporated milk. Pour into pie shell. 3.Bake for 15 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F.; bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours. Serve immediately or refrigerate. | You can always add vegetable's to the meal and Cory's favorite recipe grandma's noodles

6: Pineapple Cheese Twists 1 cup soft margarine 1 tsp. salt large cake OR 2 pkgs. dry yeast 2 eggs, beaten 4 cups flour cup lukewarm water 4 Tbsp. sugar Cut margarine, flour salt and sugar together. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add 2 beaten eggs to liquid and blend all together with dry ingredients. Knead and cover and let rise until double in bulk. Divide dough into 3 equal parts. Roll each piece into 8 x 10 rectangle. In center of dough, spread cream cheese filling. Spread pineapple filling on top of cream cheese filling. Cut two-inch slices about one-inch apart on each side of filling. Overlap strips to cover filling. Place carefully on greased cookie sheet. Let rise 25 minutes. Bake at 350egrees till brown, about 25 to 30 minutes. Cool and frost with powdered sugar frosting. Sprinkle with a few chopped nuts. Cheese Filing 16 oz. cream cheese 2 tsps. Vanilla 2/3 cup sugar 3 Tbsps. lemon juice Combine all 4 ingredients until smooth. Pineapple Filling 1# can crushed pineapple 3 Tbsps. cornstarch 1 cup sugar Cook together until thick | Diane's Favorite Recipe of Grandma's

9: ~1/2cake house hold yeast ~1/2c lukewarm water ~7c flour ~1tsp. salt ~3 egg yolks ~2c scolded milk ~1/2c melted butter ~1/2c sugar Crumble yeast in water. When bubbling add to milk with all ingredients except flour.Add flour to make soft dough.Knead. Place in greased bowl and cover. Let rise until double. Make 6 balls.Roll out and spread with filling. Place on greased pan and let rise. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes NutFilling ~4 egg white ~1c sugar ~1lb ground nuts ~1tsp vanilla Beat egg whites. Gradually add sugar.Add nuts and mix well with vanilla | Nut Roll

10: Nut Roll Delight Dough: 2 (3 oz) package cream cheese 1/2 c Butter, softened at room temperature 2 lg. eggs separated 1/2c margarine softened at room temperature 1/2 c flour 1/4 tsp. salt Cream together cheese, butter, and margarine until smooth. Add egg yolks and blend well. Add flour and salt and blend until dough sticks together and flour is blended completely. Divide dough into 4 rolls and wrap in wax paper. Chill 2 hours or overnight. Filling: 1 1/2 pound or 3 c. chopped nuts 3/4 c brown sugar 2 egg whites 2 tsp vanilla 3/4 c sugar Beat egg whites until stiff, then add all other ingredients Blend all well. Chill in refrigerator until ready for use.Roll out 1 roll of dough on wax paper with half flour and half powdered sugar, sprinkled over wax paper. Roll in a rectangle 2 inches wide and 12 inches long. Take teaspoons of filling and lay in center of rectangle. Moisten all edges of dough with water. Fold ends of rectangle first inwards, then one side of rectangle over filling and the other side over forming a long roll. Make sure roll is completely sealed. Cut into 2-inch pieces and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until bottoms are starting to turn golden, Remove from cookie sheet. 15: Apple Sauce 2 apples - peeled, cored and shredded 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 cup water Place shredded apples in a medium saucepan over medium low heat. Sprinkle with cinnamon, then add water and cook until the apple bits become soft and mushy.

17: Dumplings 2 eggs 1/2 c milk or water 1 1/2 c flour 2 T oil Mix together and add to boiling water Home Made Noodle's 2 1/4 c flour 2 lg. eggs 1/4 c water 1 T oil 1/2 T salt Place flour in bowl and make a hollowed out hole. Place all the ingredients in the hole and mix. Cook in boiling water or your favorite broth.

18: 4 cups unbleached all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon light brown sugar 1 1/3 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C) 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil 1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast 1 egg 1 tablespoon water 2 tablespoons cornmeal 1.Place flour, brown sugar, warm water, salt, olive oil and yeast in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select dough cycle; press Start. 2.Deflate the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Form dough into two loaves. Place the loaves seam side down on a cutting board generously sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover the loaves with a damp cloth and let rise, until doubled in volume about 40 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). 3.In a small bowl, beat together egg and 1 tablespoon water. Brush the risen loaves with egg mixture. Make a single long, quick cut down the center of the loaves with a sharp knife. Gently shake the cutting board to make sure that the loaves are not sticking. If they stick, use a spatula or pastry knife to loosen. Slide the loaves onto a baking sheet with one quick but careful motion. 4.Bake in preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until loaves sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. | One of the Grandkid's favorite memories together was eating butter bread with jelly late at night before bed | Italian Bread

19: Hawaiian Wedding Cake 2 c flour 2 c sugar 2 t baking soda 2 eggs lightly beaten 1 can (20oz) undrained crushed pineapple 1 c shredded coconut 1 c walnuts chopped 1/2 c unsalted butter softened 8 oz cream cheese softened 1 1/2 c powdered sugar 1 t vanilla 1. Preheat oven to 325. Coat a 13x9 pan with non stick spray. 2. In large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking soda, eggs, pineapple with juice, coconut, and 1 cup walnuts. Stir with a wooden spoon until just combined and all ingredients are moist. 3. Spoon mixture into prepared pan. Bake at 325 for 30-40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. 4. In a bowl, beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Gradually beat in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth. Frost cooled cake with the cream cheese mixture. Garnish edges with chopped walnuts if desired.

20: Apple Pie For 9'' Pie 3/4 c to 1 c sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg 6-7 c sliced apples 1 1/3 tbsp. butter Mix together sugar and spices. Mix lightly through the apples. Pour into pre made crust. Dot with butter. Cover with another pre made crust. Bake and 425 for 50-60 Minutes

21: Chocolate Chip Cookies 2/3 c oil 2/3 c butter 1 c white sugar 1 c brown sugar 2 eggs 2 t vanilla 12oz bag ch. chips 3 to 31/2 c flour 1 t baking soda Beat oil, butter, white and brown sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla beating well after each addition. Mix together in a separate bowl the flour and baking soda. Mix into the creamy mixture. Then add ch. chips. Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes
