2: Deep Sea Creatures | 2 | These are firefly squid. Right now they are lit up by their photophores. You will read about these amazing animals in the following article. | 2

3: 3 | This is a hatchet fish. It gets it's name from the unique shape and shiny scales it has. | The archaic waters of the deep, dark sea contain many unknown animals. Many of them called bioluminescent create their own light so they can see and find food through the pitch black waters. Other sea creatures feed.off of the nutrients that come out of hydrothermal vents. An example of a bioluminescent deep sea creature is a firefly squid. Firefly squid are usually found in the Western Pacific Ocean and it only goes down to about 1,200 feet. The firefly squid's scientific name is Watasenia Scintillas. Many people who travel to Japan get to see these amazing creatures. These squids have | light producing organs called photophores that five off a dark blue light. These creatures search for food at night. The firefly squid will forever be in the archives. Another interesting animal is the hatchet fish. It usually has close to reflective scales and is in the shape of a hatchet. You can find these unique fish world wide ranging from 600 to 4,500 feet deep. There are also freshwater hatchet fish, but, I am talking about the salt water hatchet fist. These deep sea creatures can get up 6 inches in length. Hatchet fish are also bioluminescent and have photophores that run throughout their bodies. Sadly these interesting fish don't usually live longer than a year. It was started by the monarch of the country, President Lincoln, but he was soon assassinated. Reconstruction was important for our country because we needed to try and rebuild ourselves. | 5

Archaeopteryx- a reptile like fossil bird of the genus archaeopteryx, from the late Jurassic Period, having teeth and a long, feathered, vertebrate tail. 5. Archaic- primitive; ancient; old 6. Archetype- the original pattern or model from which all things of the same kind are copied or on which they are based; a model or first form; prototype. 7. Archipelago- any large body of water with many islands. 8. Architect- a person professionally engaged in the design of certain large constructions other than buildings and the like. 9. Archive- documents or records relating to the activities, buisness dealing, etc., of a person family, corporation, association, community, or nation. 10. Hierarchy- any system of persons or things ranked above one another. 11. Matriarch- the female head of a family or tribal line. 12. Monarch- A person or thing that holds a dominant position. 13 Oligarchy- A form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few. | 6
