FC: Women in the War By: Wiley Isgrig

When men left for the war women were left to take over their jobs. Clara Barton: was a U.S Patent Office clerk who collected provisions for the Union army. She brought supplies straight to the people who were hurt. Barton who had watched soldiers have there wounds dressed in corn husks delivered a wagon load of bandages to the doctors. In the end she organized the American Red Cross. Some women were used as spies. Harriet Tubman spied for the north. Rose O'Neal Greenhow entertained the north's leaders, so she could take the information to the Confederate leaders.

Belle Boyd, who lived in Front Royal Virginia, told the Confederacy of the Unions Movement. Some women dressed as men and fought in the civil war. Loretta Janeta Velazquez fought for the Confederate armies. Others worked as doctors healing men on the battle field. These women were Dorothea Dix, Clara Barton, Sally Tompkins, and Kate Cummings. These women helped aid wounded men, set up groups of nurses, and brought armies wagon loads of bandages along with medical supplies.

These women helped men in the war get better from serious injuries. They also helped free slaves. Clara Barton created the American Red cross. Harriet Tubman ran the underground rail road. Others worked as spies and nurses aiding forces of both the Union and Confederate armies.

The women in the war were a big a\part of the war. If they were not there to help then the Civil War would result in more death. There probably would not be any help for doctors in the war and medical help would become scarce.

I think everyone benefited from these women in the war because both the north and the south had women helping them. Even the slaves benefited from them because Harriet Tubman ran the underground railroad

If these women were not around then disease would spread more. Gang green would be a rising epidemic, because women would not be there to give out treatments.

The U.S. would be a different place if women had not effected the path the war was taking. There would be a lot more casualties and more injured men. Neither side would have won with lack of medical help and assistance.

If women were not in the armies to this day our lives would still be in the past and the "stone age" where men are womens superiors.
