Drugs Most people confide in drugs in search of peace.Did you know that about 25% of the deaths in the United States of America are due to drug abuse. Posted 12th March 2011 by Camille Zahara http://camillezahara.blogspot.com/2011/03/does-celebrity-rehab-with-dr-drew.html

We are all aware that alcohol and drug abuse have become a major problem in our society. People become dependent on drugs and alcohol for many reasons, and every person has their own story. In our fast paced lives we have started disconnecting from good human relationships based on honesty and love. No matter what the reasons are that an individual becomes dependent on alcohol or drugs, addiction affects self-esteem, relationships and eventually every aspect of your life if you don't seek help.

Students alcohol abuse Alcohol kills 6.5 times more youth than all other illicit drugs combined. February 29, 2012 at 2:20 am http://hometestingblog.testcountry.com/?tag=teen-drug-abuse

Alcohol abuse is a disease. It is characterized by a severe pattern of drinking alcohol that negatively affects the individual's work, medical, legal, educational, and social well being. The individual who abuses this substance tends to continue to use it despite such consequences. Alcohol and drug abuse affects most families. According to surveys there is an increase in domestic violence in most cases. Also, the sons and daughters of alcoholics seem to be at higher risk for experiencing more negative feelings, stress, and alienation as well as aggression. There are a multitude of negative psychological effects due to substance and alcohol abuse, including depression and antisocial behaviors. According to statistics compiled by the American Council of Drug Addiction 10% of women and 20% of men are alcoholics. Most people who develop dependence on alcohol do so between 18 and 25 years of age.

Alcoholism :route to disaster. http://www.myhealthcareeap.com/is-alcohol-or-drugs-causing-problems-in-your-life/ | Medication expenditure for someone who is a drug addict is nearly equal to twice that of an individual who is “clean”

Functionalists argue that society provides us with norms or guidelines to follow on alcohol and drug use. A set of social norms identify the appropriate use of drugs and alcohol. Prescription drugs are very functional. They alleviate pain and curb infections. Alcohol in moderation may be routinely consumed with meals, for celebration, or for health benefits. At least one glass of red wine a day has been shown to reduce one’s risk of heart disease. In addition our social structure is also held responsible for excessive use of drugs as well. For example, college students share the perception that excessive college drinking is a cultural norm and they believe that it makes them look smart and witty. Most college groups enjoy playing drinking games that turn into binge drinking habits. Interactionists explain how we learn specific behaviors and norms from the groups we have contact with and these include peer pressure, parents as role models, and the society as a whole. We can sit and blame a billion situations and defects in our culture which have lead to drug and alcohol abuse problems. But the true essence lies in understanding why and how it happens?

Drug abuse, Drug addicts account for 527000 emergency room cases per year. Sounds scary, don’t it? August 5, 2011 at 5:50am http://hometestingblog.testcountry.com/?tag=teen-drug-abuse

Teen drug abuse By the 8th grade, 52% of adolescents have consumed alcohol, 41% have smoked cigarettes, and 20% have used marijuana. November 11, 2011 at 6:47 am http://hometestingblog.testcountry.com/?tag=teen-drug-abuse

In my opinion drug abuse can also occur when society is unable to provide guidelines for acceptable behavior. Under conditions of rapid cultural change there is always an absence of common social norms and controls which leads individuals to try abusive habits. If people lack norms to control their behavior, they are likely to pursue self-destructive behaviors like alcohol abuse. During periods when individuals are socially isolated such as moving to a new neighborhood, experiencing a divorce, or starting a new school year, they may experience high levels of stress or anxiety, which may lead to drug abuse as well.

Teen substance abuse Youth who drink alcohol are 50 times more likely to use cocaine than young people who never drink alcohol. April 3, 2012 at 3:31 am http://hometestingblog.testcountry.com/?tag=teen-drug-abuse

I believe alcohol and drug abuse amongst college students is treated like a contest. You get to hang out with a fun sorority if you are able to play all sorts of drinking games. Drinking has become more of a status symbol amongst youngsters, and most of them are not able to understand the adverse affects of these habits and end up ruining their lives as a result. I feel the college should make it compulsory for students to take the health class in their freshman year. This way they might be able to make better judgments. In the end it all depends on how interested are we as a society to eradicate this problem. Parents and schools have to stand up to save our youngsters from falling into this horrible habit. I feel that as a society we need to build better connections amongst friends and family, and instead of living selfish lives we have to learn how to build better communication with our loved ones. Only those who are loved or those who love someone more than any worldly possessions in this world have the courage to fight against alcoholism and drug abuse
